Former spy Fred Leiser is lured back from retirement to investigate, and manages to cross the border into East Germany in a dangerous night-time operation. This is another great instalment in the BBC George smiley series. The story is good. And the cast bring the story to life

Smiley is a supporting character in this one, but no matter. Simon Russell Beale is still terrific as Smiley and so is Ian McDarwid as LeClerc. It's a great story of probable Circus stitch up of moldering Whitehall agency, exploiting a Polish emigre hero from WWII in the process.
