About this listen
What do you eat when the shops run out of food?
Zoe loves teaching science, she loves her garden, and most of all she loves her quiet, peaceful bungalow. Then at school, people start falling ill. The virus is airborne and highly infectious. It starts with flu symptoms, confusion, and sleepiness, which worsen until one day they just don't wake up. It decimates the population and leaves chaos in its wake. Now Zoe has to find a way to survive.
Luckily, when the pandemic strikes, she already has a greenhouse full of vegetable seedlings, but not everyone around is as prepared. Can she avoid the people hunting for food: the "knockers" who don't always just knock? And will her strategy of stay in, hide, and wait be enough?

One of the best books I've ever read!
gripping storyline, easy to listen to & we'll thought out plot I read a lot of books & rarely write a full review but in my opinion this book deserved it.
initially i struggled with the narators voice but quickly realise she very much suited the story. I'm very glad I persevered!

A young woman succeeding against long odds.
Not like other survival stories. More about surviving on your own without weapons. Caring for others when confronted with inequity. A good solid read.

Enjoyable
I thought this would be an autobiography style but was intrigued when it wasn’t, I felt like it had a hint of Hand maids tail to it also, would recommend :)

Amazing, entertaining and realistic
I have over 400 books on Audible and this is my favourite. This book is so well written, great story and it got me hooked straight away. The narrator done an amazing job, she sounds like a science teacher. Please please do write book 2.

Very good but it just misses something.
It's a very good and well written book. The narrator wasn't the easiest voice to get into.
The story leaves a lot of questions unanswered and the lead character forgets about people who may suffer with the pandemic. Overall, great that it's an English story for once.
It is a very inspired listen with some wonderful characters and scenes. The writer takes you on a very interesting journey from normal school teacher from South Oxhey to a rescuer to a fully functioning survivalist.

Great Alternative Post-apocalyptic Story
Very different from the typical prepper/end of the world novel I've read
Was great to see it from a UK view but not only that from a female view and how they would handle it (without having some brute or hero as muscle).
Really enjoyable. Wish it was longer but I always wish that when Ive enjoyed a book ha

Alternative to the genre
I enjoyed this as it's English suburban setting would be very realistic for a lot of people. Living in England, we don't have guns or access to wide open spaces, or even the opportunity to build a bug out remote cabin. If ever a shtf situation arises I think this book provides good advice, particularly in the immediate aftermath.

Really excellent story
I loved every minute of this book. It built up very cleverly as events departed steadily from the "normal society" we all recognise but never lost credibility. Zoe made for a strong main character and both she and the events depicted were extremely relatable. Highly recommended and an author to watch out for!
