Summary
The year is 1875 and outlaw Salem Covington has spent the last 20 years collecting stories, possessions, and lives. Nicknamed "The Black Magpie" for his exploits during the war, Salem has carved a bloody trail across the western territories. Informed that his mentor, Comanche shaman Dead Bear, has been murdered. Salem vows vengeance on the perpetrators. Enlisting the help of an army scout and preserving the body of his mentor in a specially made coffin, he sets out in pursuit. But the choices of Salem's past that earned him the moniker "Black Magpie" are riding hard behind him and the only weapon that can kill him might not be as far away as he thinks.
The Magpie Coffin is an unrelenting tale of revenge, with precise brutality and extreme violence.

“Hell has made sure you’ve eaten well and the tab has come due”
Dark, gritty and grisly… definitely not for the front hearted or the squeamish!
I really enjoyed it. It’s a good story with great pacing and atmosphere. It was really well narrated with good character voices!
I’d definitely listen to more from either the author or narrator!
This is my honest opinion on a free review copy.

A Violent and dark Western tale.
I've read a lot of western novels over the years, having started with 10p mini comics as a kid. What I've Not read though is a western surrounding a paranormal gunslinger and so this was a very interesting read.
With a small, very narrow tale surrounding a legendary gunslinger adept at native-American spiritual arts, this is a very straight forward story surrounding vengeance and retribution. It's the stylized writing and darkly enacted acts of violence that make it something new and original, for me at least.
With a pretty linear story, there weren't a vast gathering of characters but they are varied and interesting and varied from generic criminals to preachers and witch-doctors. The fabulous work of Sean Duregger gave each of the cast a distinct voice, mannerism and accent ensuring that they all felt truly alive, until they (often) died screaming and his portrayal of the Black Magpie himself felt a true force of nature thanks to Sean's absolute verbal tour de force.
I'm really hoping that there are more books in this series coming and will certainly be picking future sequels up.

Wouldn't recommend.
Very corny, not very well-written. The story takes itself very seriously, while on reality it's just rambling of an edgy self insert that wants to be pure evil and have a moral high ground at the same time. It's scared to commit to anything definitive.
Even the gore is not written too interestingly.
The performance of the other hand is great, too good for such a bad story.
