"The Nature of the Game" is the second book in the Stick Side series, which you can read or listen to without knowing the first volume. I like the writing style of Amy Aislin.
This book is about second chances. I fell in love with the characters Dan, the financial analyst and Ash, the hockey player. The two have known each other for a long time and once had a relationship. Six years ago, there was an unexpected breakup for Ash. In flashbacks you learn about the events of that time and I would have liked to shake Dan at times. He made a bad decision, from which not only he, but also Ash suffered. But he did it with a good intention - he wanted to protect Ash. And now he's trying to get close to Ash again.
My heart is broken for what these two have been through in the past. I had no sympathy for Dan's mother at all.
But how can Dan dispel Ash's suspicions? It takes a lot of work to put the past behind you and move forward.
This one is a sweet, sexy, and slow burning second chance romance with wonderful characters that I fell in love with. I also really enjoyed the secondary characters. There are some ups and downs and I found myself longing for a happy ending for these two.

Adam Lawrence is a new narrator for me and he did a good job. He conveyed the emotions well and it was easy to follow his narration.
I am happy to recommend this audiobook and look forward to more volumes in the Stick Side series!

I wasn't sure how to feel about Dan and Ash in the beginning, but as their story unfolded I couldn't resist their emotional, if sometimes angsty, connection. Adam Lawrence was an amazing narrator for their story, and he added the perfect amount of emotion to his narration to make me feel what each character was going through without it sounding cheesy and fake. I loved the flashbacks to the start of Dan and Ash's relationship, both because it helped me better understand just how much they'd lost over time and because it was a nice dose of happiness in an otherwise rocky present-day reunion. Ash and Dan certainly didn't take the easy path in their relationship, but it was 100% worth it for how sweet and wholehearted their love was by the end of the book. There were times when I felt like my heart was in my throat as I listened to Ash and Dan stumble, miscommunicate, and push each other away, but I never doubted that their feelings for each other were real. Even when life or meddling family members threatened their newfound relationship, Dan and Ash proved that they wouldn't allow themselves to make the same mistakes they did in the past.

I’m going to start this one out by saying i loved te narrator. He gave a lot f personality to the characters an highlighted a lot of the emotions that they were feeling. Next I’m onto the book, this was an absolute roller coaster and i am just so grateful to have found it. The characters were well written the storyline flowed magnificently and there was just so many emotions sometimes i was tearing up other times having a great giggle. Such good. Work with this one

The nature of the game is a second chance, hockey story. Their are many of these kind of books but I felt like this one had a depth that not all of them has. I really liked it and from the beginning of the book I hoped that Ash was going to forgive Dan.

And it showed that it´s not always easy to forgive and forget. And you are not always open for an explanation even if you need it. Great book!

I mean, on paper it already was a great sell: a second chance romance set in the world of professional hockey. What’s not to love? What I did not expect was this book to go above and beyond the expected. The story is awesome and breath-taking, it made me laugh and it made me choke up and shed a few tears.
The characters are great and you can’t help to root for them as their second chance seems so close to getting real at times, and other times there’s this sense of hopelessness that puts a lump in your throat and you just want to hug Dan close (Ash, too. But it’s Dan I felt closest to) and tell him that everything will be OK.

Ah, I had forgotten how much I loved Dan Yager's story but I'm thrilled that it is now on audible.
This is a second chance story. Dan and Yager met and feel in love six years ago. They were set to start their lives together when Dan is put in an impossible situation by his mother and breaks up with Yager via text without any explanation. It has affected them both deeply and there are a lot of issues to work through when they meet up again. It's such a heartfelt story and I felt all the emotions listening to this 💜

I absolutely fell in love with Dan and Ash.
My heart also broke for what they had to endure.
They initially dated 6 years ago but Dan was young and made a bad choice, caving to pressure.
Now he's older, wiser and knows with certainty that Ash is it for him.
He has a lot to overcome, specifically Ash's ingrained mistrust.
Told in flashbacks and current times, the story slowly moves forward as they struggle to find their way back to each other.
This was sweet, sexy, funny and emotionally compelling.
Adam Lawrence did an amazing job giving these characters life.

I read this book a while back and loved it, now I got the chance to listen to the audiobook and I might even love Ash and Dan even more. I don't always like flashbacks in stories but in this book it is very well done and doesn't take away the flow of the story at all. It is one of my favorite second change romances. Dan and Ash are just so good together. I really liked the scene about their first time because it wasn't al sunshine and rainbows. It felt real and I always love that.
This was the first book by this narrator (Adam Lawrence) I listened to and I really liked his narration.

Story: Such a gripping second chance story! I was incredibly invested in the relationship from the get go. Loved the dual timeline the author chose to show us both chapters in the MCs' story. A really brilliant book!
Narration: I have to say it was not my favorite. The narration is clear and easy to follow, the voice is good, so no problem there. It's probably a matter of personal preference, but I wasn't a fan of the voices and inflections the narrator chose for the MCs.
