Summary

Winner of the Specsavers Audiobook of the Year 2018.

Penguin presents the audio edition of The Order of Time by Carlo Rovelli. The best-selling author of Seven Brief Lessons on Physics takes us on an enchanting journey to discover the meaning of time.

Time is a mystery that does not cease to puzzle us. Philosophers, artists and poets have long explored its meaning while scientists have found that its structure is different from the simple intuition we have of it. From Boltzmann to quantum theory, from Einstein to loop quantum gravity, our understanding of time has been undergoing radical transformations. Time flows at different speeds in different places, the past and the future differ far less than we might think and the very notion of the present evaporates in the vast universe.

With his extraordinary charm and sense of wonder, bringing together science, philosophy and art, Carlo Rovelli unravels this mystery, inviting us to imagine a world where time is in us and we are not in time.

Literally the best thing I ever read.

Amazing. Profound. Illuminating. Beautiful. Moving. Measured. Passionate. Thoughtful. Mind-expanding. Mind-blowing. Astonishing. Graceful. Vast. Relatable. Perfect.

Great book. Complex ideas

Great boo. The narrator does an amazing job! The ideas are very complex though, and some sections will require listening again, and others a PhD. The author does a good job to warn the listener and explain the main points.

Short but powerful

Really an amazing book. It is short, you won't get bored. In fact I would have loved a bit more... The author first de-constructs our everyday understanding of time, then explores alternatives and re-constructs the notion of time now used in modern physics. All this in a clear speach. Narration by B. Cumberbatch is a bonus!

A beautiful journey

A journey through a way of understanding time, that gives me as a reader such a natural progression that when reaching the end, it all couldn't feel more natural and beautiful.

excellent and illuminating

wonderful rumination and trigger for ideas. slightly measured reading by Benedict but at least clear and spacious enough for the concepts to sink in

Captivating adventure

Great adventure beyond the most common view of what makes our life passing by. Not a quantum physics book, more a passionate novel on a scientific topic.

Beautifully written and beautifully presented

Beautifully written by Rovelli and beautifully presented by Cumberbatch. I never realised science could read like poetry.

Incredible

The voice of Benedict Cumberbatch plus the writing of Carlo Rovelli?

What an incredible combination.

I've read the physical version of this book, and I've now listened to the audio version. Both are fantastic. It is fascinating and challenging (in a good way). Highly recommended.
