About this listen
With stunning locations and tension, The Paris Secret is an intense and gripping tale from bestselling author Karen Swan, the perfect escapism for fans of Santa Montefiore.
Not every door should be opened . . .
Somewhere along the cobbled streets of Paris, an apartment lies thick with dust and secrets: full of priceless artworks hidden away for decades.
High-flying fine art agent Flora from London, more comfortable with the tension of a million-pound auction than a cosy candlelit dinner for two, is called in to assess these suddenly discovered treasures. As an expert in her field, she must trace the history of each painting and discover who has concealed them for so long.
Thrown in amongst the glamorous Vermeil family as they move between Paris and Antibes, Flora begins to discover that things aren’t all that they seem, while back at home her own family is recoiling from a seismic shock. The terse and brooding Xavier Vermeil seems intent on forcing Flora out of his family’s affairs – but just what is he hiding?

Interesting story, weak ending
The story line was interesting and definitely makes a change from cup cake themed books! The characters were mostly believable but Flora’s first meeting with Natasha was absurd. The narration was excellent and added a extra dimension to the story. I was therefore very disappointed with the ending. Without giving away too much, the denouement of a veritable monster leading to the almost immediate recovery of one of his victims is both implausible and unbelievable. We don’t all need to have endings all neatly tied up in a bow, especially when it weakens the whole book.

Full of twists and turns
A great easy listening read that held me for every minute of the story. Another Karen Swan triumph.

Brilliant
I have to applaud the narrator, she was so easy to listen to and her accents were fantastic. I will look out for other books that have been narrated by her for sure!! The story was also brilliant, I enjoyed it from start to finish and hated having to press pause to speak to people. This is my first book by Karen Swan and it definitely won't be the last. Beautifully written and narrated!!

A tempestuous tale, powerfully emotive
An intensely emotional book. The story is soul-stirring, and at times heart-breaking. Wonderfully written with perfect passages capturing the essence of Paris and the French Riviera, and narrated beautifully with fantastique French accents.

Intriguing and very interesting insight into history and a love story.
This was so intriguing and it kept me riveted . I loved it and the narrator was very good. The piece of History also added substance to the story as did the Art which I had a great interest in.

Loved it!
I’ve listened to a few Karen Swan audiobooks and I think this was my favourite- intriguing story, compelling characters and my big bear for her, no easily checked medical misinformation. 😂

A believable narrative.
A moving narrative entwined between a traumatic past and an entitled present, or so its thought.
