About this listen

The dramatic, compelling bestselling true story of how a serial killer was finally unmasked after evading justice for more than twenty years

Now a major TV series starring Luke Evans

1980s. In the beautiful, unspoiled landscape of Pembrokeshire, a serial killer is at large: two double murders; an assault; the rape and assault of two teenagers - all potentially the work of one man.

This is the fascinating true story of a brutal murderer and the detectives who worked the cold case for six years in order to bring him to justice. Combining cutting edge forensic techniques with old fashioned detective work, a team of detectives worked to build a case against their prime suspect. But it was a race against time: would he strike again?

No one could predict that the killer's appearance on a gameshow would provide bizarre but crucial evidence.

The operation is now recognised as one of the greatest cold case reviews ever undertaken in the UK.

The killer is now serving a "life means life" sentence.

Perfect for fans of The Serpent

An interesting book about a complete psychopath called John Copper who evaded justice for years. It’s full of police procedural investigations and the works of a court case. I found the narration suited the book.

Interesting

Unfortunately I can’t get past the fact the the narrators intonation is almost exactly the same for every single sentence ☹️ it’s a shame as I’m sure the story is great.

Couldn’t get into this.

The story is exciting, but I didn't enjoy the narrator. I found his intination somewhat odd and a little off putting. I think it is the slight upward infection at the end of sentences that grated on me after a while. I noticed that other reviews have praised the narrator so this must be down to personal preference

Fascinating investigation

Told the story very well, definitely worth a listen for true crime fans. goes in-depth into police procedure and doesn't glorify the crimes. a good voice to listen to, read very well.

A very good book.

Having watched and was gripped by the series on TV recently, I decided to listen to the book. Whilst the actual story is captivating, the narrative spoiled it for me. It was read very quickly which then made it hard to process the depth of information given. I’ll read it at my own speed and enjoy it more that way.

The narrator spoiled it

I really liked the fact that I that the book expanded upon the great ITV series covering the case. I was very impressed about the depth of police work that was required to secure the conviction using past & present technology, previous casework & how individual officers could come together as a team. I fully recommend this book to anyone who enjoys true life crime & what is needed to solve major cases.

An excellent book which details the case well.

Called the Pembrookshire Murders and set in a local police station so where were the welsh? Poor narration. Perhaps I’ve been spoilt by the great TV adaptation but this disappointed.

Where was the Welsh?

I grew up in Johnston and Milford Haven. My father went fishing on Cooper's boat a number of times and brought him to our house to play cards.

He was a decent man to us, so to know he was the man who did these crimes is especially chilling, for we would never of imagined it.

May he rot in jail.

Well written, detailed, informative but not the most exciting true crime book. Wasn't a big fan of the narrator either. Overall a good book which fans of true crime would enjoy!
