About this listen

"Melissa Ferguson delivers yet another sparkling, laugh-out-loud romance!"—RaeAnne Thayne, New York Times bestselling author

She’s written dozens of smash-hit romance novels. Too bad no one knows it.

Aspiring author Bryony Page attends her first writers conference bursting with optimism and ready to sell her manuscript with long-shot dreams of raising awareness for The Bridge, her grandmother’s financially struggling organization where she teaches ESL full-time. But after a disastrous pitch session, she stumbles into correcting another author’s work in a last-ditch attempt to make a good impression with the agent. And she, as it turns out, is spot on.

No one is more surprised than Bryony when the agent offers her the opportunity to be a ghostwriter for Amelia Benedict, popular rom-com novelist. Bryony agrees on one condition: she’ll write books for this vain, demanding woman just as long as Jack Sterling, literary agent of the legendary Foundry Literary Agency, works to sell her own book too.

What nobody predicted, however, was that Bryony’s books would turn Amelia Benedict into the Amelia Benedict, household name and bestselling author with millions of copies sold around the world.

And just like that, the Foundry Agency can’t let her go.

But on a personal note, Jack is realizing he can’t either.

Don't miss the delightful romantic comedy, The Perfect Rom-Com by Melissa Ferguson, a story of two seemingly mismatched hearts brought together by fate, proving that sometimes, the perfect love story is hidden in the pages of a well-loved book.

" . . . clever and adorable . . . brimming with warm humor and a lot of heart . . . "—Rachel Linden, bestselling author of The Magic of Lemon Drop Pie

"I loved this book!"—Sheila Roberts, USA TODAY bestselling author of The Best Life Book Club

"I couldn't put this book down!"—Suzanne Allain, author of Mr. Malcolm's List

This book was lovely and very uplifting. Karissa Vacker is an excellent narrator and she really brought this book to life. Just like Melissa’s other books, this is a romance that explores more than just the couple and their attraction to each other. Melissa’s writing style is captivating and will make you feel like you’re being hugged by a book.

Lovely uplifting and funny book

This was indeed the perfect rom-com and I read it in one sitting, front to back! The story follows the relationship and emotional growth of Bryony and Jack, with a strong focus on Bryony’s personal development. I loved that the romance was PG-13 and not spicy, which allowed for a deeper focus on the characters’ emotional connection and growth. This made the romance feel much more lived-in, natural, and grounded.

Jack, the male main character, is an absolute swoon-worthy gem — truly worth protecting at all costs. His tenderness and devotion gave the story major "he falls first and hard" vibes, and I was completely here for it.

This book felt like a nostalgic throwback to a 2000s chick flick or rom-com, exploring themes like love conquers all and self-discovery. It was warm, witty, and emotionally satisfying.

The final 20% of the plot genuinely surprised me. Just when I thought I had it all figured out, the story took a turn that had me second-guessing everything and scanning for clues — in the best way. It was so refreshing to be pleasantly caught off guard. The ending tied everything together beautifully and left me feeling warm, content, and happy.

As for the audiobook narration — Karissa Vacker did an outstanding job. Her performance made it easy to distinguish between characters during dialogue, and her voice had me hooked from the very beginning. It really helped me stay immersed in the story and made the listening experience all the more enjoyable.

A heartwarming feel-good read
