Whilst the deadpan narration is a little dry this is nevertheless a fascinating and inspiring account of the later stoics and their ideas about how to live a better life. Really enjoyed this

Fascinating and detailed overview of Stoicism

This book is split into 12 easily distinguishable areas of interest for learning Stoicism. The use of quotes relevant to the theme of each chapter and references to related ideas is an invaluable asset to anyone who wishes to progress with Stoic Philosophy.

The Narrator is ideal for this book as he is not dry and emotionless like you might expect, but uses just the appropriate amount of vocal expression as the story requires to emphasise the given points.

A wealth of wisdom with every word, I will probably re-read this book. The footnotes were too long winded though and it certainly would have benefited the reader’s experience (unless a study student) by making them more concise.

This is the best distillation of stoicism I’ve read. Wonderfully written, with the perfect balance of original extracts and the authors commentary. I’ve just finished it and I am going to listen to it again straight away.

Took a while to get into but then I couldn't put it down. Take notes! One part that bugged me was his need to put in the POSSIBLE benefit of getting drunk once in a while. That was later contradicted by the same Stoic and said to be more harmful. At least he mentioned that but he should have left irrelevant info like that out.

Great intro to Stoicism

Enjoyable & informative narrative in helping to further develop my knowledge of Stoicism. Having read Marcus Aurelius Meditations & Seneca’s Letters, this was a pleasant experience to listen to the content whilst also learning about more contemporary philosophers who practice stoicism. A easy to follow approach but nevertheless, formal with a constant cite to author and passage throughout which sometimes gets a little tiresome.
