About this listen

When local television news anchor Katherine Kyle is thrust into the national spotlight, it sets in motion a chain of events that will change her life forever.

Jamison "Jay" Parker is an intensely career-driven Time magazine reporter; she has experienced love once, from afar, and given up on finding it again.... That is until circumstance and an assignment bring her into contact with her past.

Kate and Jay's lives intertwine, leading them on a journey to love and happiness - until fate and fame threaten to tear them apart. What is the price of fame? For Kate the cost just might be everything. For Jay the price could be the other half of her soul.

Critic reviews

"Ames, much feted for her lesbian mysteries and romances, adds another to her record of successful storytelling. Narrator Emily Beresford provides a fully voiced performance of the two featured women. Kate and Jay first met during a skiing accident when Jay was in college. Now, a few years later, they're meeting again as Kate, a TV journalist, reports live from a state capitol bombing. The crush Jay felt that first time is still much alive, and Kate, happily, is feeling romantic now, too. Beresford effectively differentiates the two principals, as well as the wide range of secondary characters, by varying pitch and tone. Her pacing fits each scene, whether one of tenderness or camera-rolling chaos during news reporting. The first of a series, this audiobook, and its team of Kate and Jay, should find a welcome audience." ( AudioFile Magazine)

Very enjoyable

The next in series is already waiting to be played
I enjoyed this book alot , I saw a few negative reviews and dismissed them and so glad I did (each to their own and all that) . Yes its a bit sappy but that's ok in my book. one or two bits didn't sit well on me a bit especially how in the last paragraph Jay was made to be unreasonable one , I'm firmly on team Jay . Lynn Ames wrote a very enjoyable book which was fast paced for a romance but with the back stories it made sense and I'm truly glad we no longer live in the 80s
Emily Beresford has a voice I can listen to all day long .
Overall I would recommend this to anyone who likes lesbian romance

Forgettable

Both the narration and writing felt somewhat two dimensional. Didn’t hold my attention. Kay in particular was so impossibly perfect, and the complexity of Jay could’ve been explored more. The whole feeling of the dynamic between them was too parent-child not to be a little creepy, especially given Jays history.

'Love'

I liked the overall story and the characters. Hated how often the word 'love' was used as an endearment - I'm a dour Scot. Will read the book instead of listening next time because I do want to know what happens next.

OK story in parts awful narration

I enjoyed the story at first but the interactions and conversations between main characters are unrealistic and sickening. The narrator is awful, her voice is enthusiastic and happy all the way through even when a mad man wielding a butchers knife is attacking them. I stopped being able to follow the story around chapter 10 as it became monotonous and the narrator became white noise.

book is better than the audio

What did you like best about The Price of Fame? What did you like least?

the book is great and a good story but the narration is awful the voice to too weak for a strong character like Kate

What other book might you compare The Price of Fame to, and why?

The Devil Unleashed Ali Vali a great book

What didn’t you like about Emily Beresford’s performance?

the voice is too weak its hard to think that Kate is a anchor on tv and supposed to be this person who controls a room and Jay just sounds like a little girl

If this book were a film would you go see it?

probably

Any additional comments?

i was looking forward to getting these audio books as i really liked the books but now i don`t think i will as it`s a struggle to get through this one

Everything I want in a story

The fact that, upon completing this audio book, I immediately wanted to buy extra credits so I can listen to the next instalments immediately, says everything you need to know.
The character development is rich, the story is broad and deep, and the narration drew me into the lives of the characters.
I enjoyed everything about the experience of this audio book. Very much looking forward to following the adventures of these interesting lives in the subsequent books.
One of the joys of finding an author later in their writing career is that I can binge listen to the entire library. Way better than Netflix.

ok but overdone

last few chapters were not credible. Narration didn't suit the characters. But
... A nice little story set in the 80's

Hilarious, but for all the wrong reasons

Please don't get me wrong. I love a good old cheesy lesbian romance, I have read and listened to so many of them I'm surprised I haven't come across this one before.
I gave it 2 stars because I don't want to be too scathing, as a background listen its fine. However, I think the author needs to do some work with a dialogue coach. Nobody has conversations like the characters in this book, they are cringworthy. Listening whilst walking the dog must had made me seem like a crazy person as laughing out loud on your own walking down the street wearing earbuds can get you a second look or two.
I'm going to leave it here, I could go on, but honestly this author has written several books, which is several more than me, and good luck to her if others are reading/listening and enjoying, she did a great job, but on this occasion it just wasn't for me.

In a word, awful!!

I have listened to a lot of questionable audiobooks but never has one been so bad it has actually made me angry! The story is so weak, I hate the leads, there’s so connection. I kept listening hoping it would improve but it just got worse! Don’t bother
