About this listen

For almost a decade, Richard Herring has been answering sexist trolls on International Women's Day when they ask 'when is International Men's Day?' in the mistaken belief there isn't one.

If only the trolls had learned to use Google they'd realise that there is an International Men's Day - it's on November 19th.

In The Problem with Men Richard expands on his Twitter discussions and tackles some of the big questions surrounding the problems of toxic masculinity - for women, but also for men - including:

  • Should men fear feminism?
  • Is society sexist against men?
  • Could you win a point against Serena Williams?

*spoiler* The answer to all of these is no.

With Richard's signature humour and insight, The Problem with Men is a book for anyone striving for an equal society, all year round.

Critic reviews

"The problem with The Problem with Men is that I do believe men will have less trouble with it than the title suggests as it is actually a glorious, funny book written by a glorious funny man." (Aisling Bea)

"Very moving, one of the few things I've consumed in 2020 that has left me with a sense of hope...but one thing wasn't made clear, when is International Men's Day?" (John Robins)

"This is a great book but I think the last thing it needs is a quote by yet another man." (James Acaster)

You’ll find out when International Men’s Day is.

Many, many times!

There is of course a serious message delivered in this book, and the discussion points raised are important ones.

I enjoyed the book. At times, Herring can be a little over enthusiastic in his rant, and that can make things loud.

Other than that, I enjoyed this short analysis on men, equal rights and various other aspects of society.

it Doesn't Answer The Question!!

I have sent Mr herring (I refuse to capitalise his name) hundreds of tweets over the span of 9 years using a variety of fake Twitter accounts and I have used each one of these tweets to ask a very very very simple question, which he had supposedly finally written a book to answer.
So I buy the book using a valuable credit that I could have saved for something by Jeremy Clarkson and I listen to Mr herring wittering on in that supposedly amusing way of his for hours - there's even a woman on it - and at no point does the question get answered.
I want a refund.

Fun, easy listen.

Super easy listen, loads of interesting points presented in a fun, non-confrontational way. Read with charm by the author.

Good book, spoilt by the reader

Good book, funny and interesting, on an important subject. Incredibly annoying narration by the author though (I'd have thought a stand up would be able to read his own words a bit more competently). Should have got the twitter narrator to read the whole thing.

Intelligent, funny, important.

A well-researched, well thought-out listen from the brilliant Richard Herring. Makes you laugh out loud but also think. Very entertaining whilst conveying an important message, and not just about men. Fantastic!

I'm left wondering....

...is there an international mens day, and if so, when is it? We may never know.

Very Good & Informatively Funny

Thank you Mr Richard for your very good and funnily informative book. I enjoyed binge-listening to it in one go and at the end I felt equally amused and educated. I just wish that within all the humour and discussion you would've remembered to mention the date of International Mens Day. I ended up having to ask on Twitter.
