Summary
This history is a stunning introduction to House Targaryen, the iconic family at the heart of HBO and Sky’s Game of Thrones prequel series House of the Dragon.
For hundreds of years, the Targaryens sat the Iron Throne of Westeros while their dragons ruled the skies. The story of the only family of dragonlords to survive Valyria’s Doom is a tale of twisty politics, alliances and betrayals, and acts both noble and craven. The Rise of the Dragon chronicles the creation and rise of Targaryen power, covering the history first told in George R. R. Martin’s epic Fire & Blood, from Aegon Targaryen’s conquest of Westeros through to the infamous Dance of the Dragons – the bloody civil war that nearly undid their rule for good.
The Targaryens – and their dragons – come vividly to life in this audiobook, which includes a bonus supplement packed with all-new artwork.
Perfect for fans steeped in the lore of Westeros, as well as those who first met the Targaryens in the HBO and Sky TV series House of the Dragon, The Rise of the Dragon provides a must-have overview for anyone looking to learn more about the most powerful family in Westeros.
PLEASE NOTE: When you purchase this title, the accompanying PDF will be available in your Audible Library along with the audio.

A more focused version of Fire and Blood
Loved Fire and Blood and loved this - although a much more focused version it certainly explored more pre history than I recalled and I thoroughly enjoyed the encyclopaedic nature of it’s telling. I also loved the illustrations that come with the audiobook that can be accessed through the chapter selection - only feedback is it goes back to page 1 when you exit the PDF everytime so I had to save it in my eBooks separately which isn’t a big deal but might be an idea to consider in future updates

Very Much Enjoyed This Book
After watching Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon, which I loved, I wanted to know more! This book reads to me like a history book and for me it filled in the gaps, I really enjoyed it. You do find out what happens next in the house of dragons story (although the book doesn’t go into detail), but that was good for me as I really can’t wait til the next TV season in 2024!!! Harry Lloyd the narrator was excellent, he’s good in whatever he does :)

Good
Absolutely fine but not really worth it if you’ve read fire and blood as very similar.

More family tree less storytelling
Didn’t enjoy this as much as Fire and Blood. Felt more like a family tree explanation than telling a story. More detailed in terms of the different families if you like that sort of thing.

Less detailed rehash of Fire and Blood
This is a less detailed and completely pointless abridged version of part of the fantastic Fire and Blood book. With the interesting bits taken out. Fire and Blood made you late for things since it made it impossible to drag yourself away from it. This is boring, we completely lost interest because nothing happens, even the artwork they send you a pdf of is of poor quality.
Do Not buy.

Just listen to Fire & Blood
This is a waste of time for anyone that has read / listened to Fire & Blood, literally the same story just written in a slightly less interesting way.
