About this listen

On Sunday, February 3rd 1990, seven-year-old Danny Redpath disappeared from his home. Four months later, his body was found in the nearby forest, washed clean of all evidence. Over time, more bodies were discovered; more families devastated forever.

Apprehended while attempting to abduct another child, Jonathan Egan-Walsh was charged with the murders of thirteen boys. Convicted on all counts, he received life in prison and went unrepentant, still refusing to reveal the whereabouts of one of his victims, Zachery Marshall.

Twenty-five years later, Zachery’s mother Diane is still searching for his body. When Jonathan dies in custody, she realises she will never know its location – until she receives a letter he left in his cell, in which he admits he was guilty of all the crimes of which he was accused, except the murder of her son.

Diane tracks down the woman in charge of the case at the time, former DI Caroline Turner, and together with Jonathan’s biographer Alex Frost they start to investigate. Could this be the killer’s final twist of the knife – or is he telling the truth at long last? Sooner or later, this secret buried and undisturbed for a quarter of a century will come to light.

Kept me guessing to the last word!

I guessed the killer half a dozen times, yep got it right but changed my mind, again and again! Really enjoyed this book, so much so have downloaded one of his other books to read!
Good plot, characters well like in life some really nice others not quite so nice. Liked the dual narration- didn’t think I was going to but it worked well, and both narrators were very good.
Would recommend!

Good listen

I enjoyed listening to this book, I’ve not listened or read anything by Michael Wood before, but I’ll certainly look out for some others.
The story is interesting and the characters are well defined and believable I thought.
Great performances from Joanne Froggatt and Mathew Horn.

great read

really enjoyed this book. Kept me guessing and engaged. I think it covered a very sensitive topic well but can see how some people may think of it as controversial. If cruelty to children is something you cant stomach listen with caution as the books covers lots of aspects of paedophilia and rehabilitation of convicts. The way the story is written at 1st comes across more factual than fiction as it is based on a true case. All in all extremely well written, researched and voiced. Will be recomending

An excellent thriller

A really good book, with a mother trying to locate the body of her little boy, missing for years, presumed dead at the hands of a convicted serial killer. The killer goes to prison for life for killing so many little boys, but he denies having anything to do with the disappearance of this particular boy. It was a good story with compelling characters and storylines. I enjoyed it. Very good narration. Worth a listen, especially on Audible Plus.

Couldn't stop listening!

I don't normally leave reviews but I feel as though I must with this audio . I was captivated from the sample and couldn't stop listening I rushed home from work to start listening again. The characters are very relatable , it was easy to follow and the narrators were brilliant . It's a difficult subject and sometimes upsetting but it's so good . I'd recommend you listen to this .

Very enjoyable story, the interview? Not so much

The whole thing worked very, the different voice actors were great.

The end interview was in my humble opinion, spoiled by the interviewer.
