About this listen

"An excellently crafted tale of love, struggle, failure, and victory, this fantasy hefts heavy themes of faith, philosophy, culture, and humanity without loosing any enjoyment for the reader. Not only will this book keep you happily lost in a fantasy world for hours, it won't let you leave unchanged." (J.E. Purrazzi, author of The Malfunction Trilogy and The Raventree Society)

Parr is under siege. A riot broke out in the palace. The Emperor is on the move.

Queen Gwyneth Jada seems to be facing insurmountable odds as the Devinian hordes descend on Parr. Emperor Nicholas is coming for her throne personally, intent on making Rodasia part of his vast Empire. Yet shocking news brings hope: Lacy is not the only Shade. But Gwen isn't sure the small army of brand-new Shades will be enough to turn the tide of the war.

When tragedy strikes, Gwen is once again fleeing for her life. She refuses to give up, and with help coming from an unlikely source, Gwen must choose between conceding to Devin, or fighting for Rodasia's freedom. With Jakob trapped in Parr, Charles and Lacy making a last ditch effort to stop the Emperor, and Thomas Stout by her side, Gwen fights to maintain hope that the war won't destroy her beloved country.

Fantastic

I loved this whole series, Lacy being my favourite character, she’s so tuff and an amazing worrier.
Gwen makes a great queen, she’s no pushover that’s for sure.
This series made my cry in parts, but was also exciting, I totally loved the shades, and the big warrior lol
A lot of thought has gone into these books and I enjoyed the religious twist, all though I don’t think I’d have taken a 15yrs old boy seriously. But that’s the story. The narration was good but I personally think there should have been more than one narrator, especially for the male voices as some of them did make me cringe.
But overall I’d recommend this trilogy to anyone who enjoys a really great read.
