About this listen
From the author of Psycho, a tale of eldritch horror in the mode of H. P. Lovecraft. Evil tomes, unwitting seekers of arcane knowledge, and a horror from beyond the stars!
Public Domain (P)2016 David PlingeAll the Mythos elements are there: ancient mages, dreaded tomes and, of course, the fearsome Shambler itself, which reveals its true horrible form only after ... well, you'll have to read it yourself!
This story was originally written for Weird Tales magazine, and later included in Bloch's short story compilation "Mysteries of the Worm", which is not available, unfortunately, as an audiobook in its entirety - Audible only have two of the 20 stories to download. In the story, Mysteries is the name of the dread tome from which the Shambler is unknowingly summoned, and it would make my day if Audible announced the release of Bloch's compilation, because if the other tales are even half as good as this one I'd certainly buy the set, but at nearly a fiver for less than 30 mins I found this a bit on the pricey side (and hence why I dropped it a star overall)
Narration was okay - certainly a hundred times better than whoever narrated the Youtube version! However, I do find David Plinge a little tedious to listen to - best kept for short stories I reckon.
SO GOOD LOVECRAFT HIMSELF WAS INSPIRED ....
