About this listen
Lazarus County needs a sheriff. There are Indian tribes and bandits throughout New Mexico, and the people of Gilgamesh have gone on far too long without a lawman. The town folk unanimously vote for John Wilkins, the stage coach driver, but he thinks his soldiering days are long past. Nonetheless, he is beloved by the people of Gilgamesh, including the Kimball family who are just there for a spell while the father, James, works on the railroad.
Harriet Kimball finds herself enchanted by Gilgamesh and begins to think of the place as home, going so far as to put out an ad for marriage in the newspaper. She is almost as surprised by John Wilkins’ reply as he was.
John’s passion for Harriet reawakens his old self, and before he knows, he’s reconsidering the offer from the town and the solitary, lonely future that he’d accepted.

Harriett & John!
I love a short, sweet romance. It clears my head and this series is perfect for that. This fourth story is getting Gilgamesh a sheriff. At least it is hoping to. Things are out of hand and some semblance of the law needs to be instilled. Requesting John, the stagecoach driver, to become the sheriff has been set forth, but he is uncertain that is his path. Harriett, it getting ready to move again with her father and brother. Her brother, Milt, is a little slower than others his age, and she has found Gilgamesh to be a good fit for him, as well as John is a good influence for him. Now these two are up in the air with their futures. Will they once again collide? I loved this for a couple of reasons. It brings out some realistic circumstances of the old west. Milt is a special boy and things were not so tolerant in the old west. It has a strong female lead, taking control of her own destiny. And Milt is a character that you can't help but love. It's heartwarming and the perfect listen for a Saturday walk.
Charley Ongel continues her narration of this series. I enjoy her performances so much, as she has a wide variety of voices, and each one is so specific to the character, you know exactly who is talking. She is also a great storyteller, understanding the plot and time period so well that it flows and is easy to listen to. Love her voice.

The Sheriff Needs a Bride
This is a great story. The town of Gilgamesh is trying to get a good sheriff and John (the stagecoach driver) is voted to the position but he might not be willing to be tied down to the position. Harriet Kimball might be able to reawaken John's passion.
