Summary

The Downs, the poor district of the city of Avarest, is home to cutthroats and thieves, pickpockets and prostitutes, all of whom pay tribute to one of two powerful crime bosses.

It is also home to Aaron Envelar, a disillusioned sellsword known as the Silent Blade, who cares nothing for the criminal overlords or their schemes, who only wants to survive and make a little coin in the process.

But when a group of unwitting thugs steal his mother’s necklace, the only link he has to his murdered parents, Aaron decides that sometimes gold isn’t enough - sometimes, blood is the only payment worth taking. And whatever else will come, this time, he will not be silent. After all, when you take everything from a man, what else does he have to lose?

A good start.

I kept forgetting that this was a very short book. It was well read, I have heard Steven Brand’s reading before, and enjoy the rasping the quality and despair nature of his new collection.

I think the author could do with finding another swearword than, ‘Gods!’

Fantastic

Short, but well worth the listen. The silent blade is a fantastic dark story, read many fantasy novels and only now found the gritty realism that the dark fantasies have to offer, this is one on of the best. Will definitely go on to read the series.

Good but short

It a good book but it's very short, well narrated and will buy more but there does seem to be a plot mix judgement in that,no one threatens a boss of hundreds and gets away with it, with no comeback, the author repeats these strange concepts of plot and at times it spoils the book but overall worth a listen

This little Piggy, slice

A great little short story from Jacob Peppers world, A Seven Virtues series, Aaron Envelar is the silent blade, an absolute awesome character is driven to vengeance after his dead mothers necklace is stolen and people he cares for are hurt and killed in the process, its time for the blades to come out to play, for such a short story it has lots of action and very strong characters, love me some assassin stories, fantastic preformence by narrator Steven Brand, highly recommend....😁

Staccato narration spoils an ok story

Unfortunately the narrator seems unable to read in full sentences, relentlessly spurting phrases of up to half a dozen words, one after the other, which proved irritating to listen to, and detracted from the short story. The tale was just entertaining enough to want to hear the end but not exceptional and, very definitely, marred by the as stated annoying narration; a pleasant voice, but disastrous phrasing.

Narrator spoiled it for me.

Narrator had a monotone voice and seems to rush the book. I had to give up in chapter 1. A pity really it seemed like it could be a good book.
Get it reread by Derek Perkins and I'll
Probably download the whole series.

“Recklessness and desperation will kill a man quicker than any blade”

Really enjoyable story with great characters and I think I’d really enjoy listening to the whole series!
Great narration and atmosphere. Although there’s a lack of different voices for the characters it’s still read really well!
I read this as part of Audible Plus.
