About this listen

A stand-alone, lighthearted crime romp featuring amateur sleuth Fellworth Dolphin by the bestselling MC Beaton.

Ignorance is bliss... especially when it comes to murder! Ever since the death of his father, Fellworth Dolphin has slaved away as a waiter to support his miserly, cold-hearted mother. So when she suddenly dies Fellworth is shocked to discover she has left him a fortune. Somewhat confused, Fell teams up with a girl from work, Maggie, to investigate the source of the riches. But what they find instead is a closet full of skeletons... Is it really possible Fell's father was involved in a decades-old train robbery? And who is the mysterious woman in the portrait hidden in his mother's wardrobe? As Fell and Maggie poke around the village for answers they find themselves on a surprise-filled path to danger and adventure - but all this good fortune could come to a sudden end if they don't stay one step ahead of a cunning killer...

M C Beaton is the author of the hugely successful Agatha Raisin and Hamish Macbeth series, both published by Constable & Robinson. She left a full time career in journalism to turn to writing, and now divides her time between living in a village in the Cotswolds very much like Agatha's beloved Carsely, Paris and Istanbul.

Great to just let your mind float away. Listened to it in 1 go whilst just going about my day. The story has you rooting for t characters from day 1. No huge long preamble into stories and no pretentious attempts at cleverness and the humour is inoffensive.
Love how she makes her characters honestly flawed but you still care about them.
MC Beaton you are greatly missed.

This was a fun book, not taking itself too seriously. I enjoyed the light-hearted feel. The main character is an idiot, but you can't help wishing him well. Thank goodness for the women in his life.

The narration is very good and easy to listen to. I had read a review about the frequency of "Dandelion Summer" so I was conscious of it, but it actually just made me chuckle.

It isn't a classic, but I did enjoy listening. Not that long, but loads of funny silliness.

Lots of fun
