Summary

This is a complete presentation on the workings of the human spirit and soul and body. The book aims at delivering people from the tyranny of self-life with its carnality and from the domination of the passions and lusts of the flesh. It attempts to lead them to the full salvation of Christ. It is not to be taken as a manual but as a guide to true spirituality. It is recommended that this three-volume work be listened to quickly once. Then, lay it aside and wait until the Holy Spirit leads one into a certain stage of spiritual life when knowledge and understanding are needed. Turn, then to the special section of the book dealing with that particular experience for enlightenment. Thus, it will be realized that in Thy light, shall we see light (Ps. 36:9). May God use this book to help people in their journeying towards the spiritual.

Excellent

Must read. Practical, biblical, energizing and convicting. Glad I bought it. Read this if you want to grow past the spiritual baby stage. It also corresponds to what I've discovered in my own life.

A Spiritual Classic

Watchman Nee has a system for making sense of much Christian doctrine using a simple schema of body/soul/spirit. Like many theories were there is a simple framework for making sense of a great deal of complexity, this has its advantages and disadvantages. On the one hand Nee is able to go through a great many doctrines and teachings and shed a new perspective or understanding on them through dividing body, soul and spirit, however there are times when such a simple schema can make things too simple and perhaps hide some of the genuine complexity of real life.

I do fear that sometimes these ideas can be used as an excuse for individuals in positions of power in a church or family to bully and exploit those "under" them, and although on the whole Nee doesn't seem to allow such a reading there are some places where I felt he was perhaps too naive in how spiritual ideas can be exploited by unscrupulous people.

Often people seeking a spiritual community are vulnerable and need particularly to be cared for and supported, yet too often in churches they are exploited and abused, anyone reading Nee should realise that it is the spirit that is the source of true love and compassion and if they are preying on those weaker than themselves they are definitely being soulish Christians.

Receiving more in Christ

truly eye opening to desire more nourishment from the Lords table, been guilty of neglecting, a road map and a picture of us simply then progressively completed, in tasting.

Must-have!

This book is not a must-read/must-listen, but rather it is a must-have (I recommend having a physical copy as well to reinforce what is being said). Watchman Nee has clearly laboured in prayer and intimacy with the Father, it is clear when reading this book. It simply opens your eyes to things and concepts the scriptures already teach and stresses the importance of heeding to said scriptural teachings. My life has been transforming since this book has arrived in my possession. Glory to God.

You will come back to this book!

This is by no means a passive book to be just read and left on the shelf. It requires the active participation of the reader and careful contemplation and self assessment as a follow up.

It's a blessing of a work to those who are ready to seek a deeper walk with God.

The narrator has a welcoming tone and allows the seriousness of the book to come through without making it a chore.

It's best to set aside time to go through this book on a regular basis.

As for content the book is very thorough carefully dissecting the matters of the body soul and spirit.

I intend to read again and highly recommend!

This is an outstanding book

This is an outstanding book, dealing so clearly with the differerence between a soulish life and a spiritual one. I have never heard it explained so distinctly before. It is for those who want to go deep in God and experience his life in fullness. It is very challenging but so rewarding!

The narrator is good. The only slight difficulty is there are no pauses between paragraphs which makes it hard to follow at times as the ideas run into one another. I imagine that is simply a quirk of recording.
