Summary
Family and friendship mean everything under the darkening skies of wartime Britain, by Sunday Times best-selling author Margaret Dickinson.
It is the 1930s, and the Maitland family have spent the years following the Great War struggling to come to terms with its catastrophic aftermath, and their hopes now lie with the next generation. Their Lincolnshire village of Doddington suffered terrible loss, and it has taken great courage for the bereaved families to rebuild their lives without their loved ones.

An excellent sequel to the Brooklyn girls.
A wonderful story, full of intrigue and exciting twists and turns as well as being very informative about the RAF in World War 2. I thoroughly enjoyed it and couldn’t put it down. Well done everyone involved in the production of these two audio books.

Narrator will make or break a real good novel
The Maitland trilogy could have been among my all time favourite novels. I love Margaret Dickinson`s books but I felt Kate Rawson`s attempt at upper class dialect extremely annoying, so much that it ruined my enjoyment of the book. I feel a different narrator could have transformed these novels into a superb saga. Great books ruined by second rate narrator.. sorry.

narration made me switch off
Personally, I just couldn't tolerate the awful narration of this audiobook. It was reminiscent of an over-medicated primary school teacher at story time. I persevered in the hope I would be able to overcome that and immerse myself in the plot, but I gave up after 3 chapters. Disappointing as I see many other reviewers enjoyed it.
