About this listen

The Stranger in My Home is the utterly compelling new contemporary novel from Adele Parks, Sunday Times best-selling author of The State We're In, sure to move, grip and delight her fans along with readers of Liane Moriarty, Jane Shemilt and Lisa Jewell.

When you have everything you dreamed of, there is everything to lose.

Alison is lucky, and she knows it. She has the life she always craved, including a happy home with Jeff and their brilliant, vivacious teenage daughter, Katherine - the absolute centre of Alison's world. Then a knock at the door ends life as they know it.

Fifteen years ago someone else took Alison's baby from the hospital. And now Alison is facing the unthinkable. Her daughter belongs to someone else. What would you do if you discovered your beloved child is not yours?

Plenty of twists and turns.

I really enjoyed this book and there were a few twists that I wasn’t expecting.
I listened to it on audible over a couple of days.

Quite a long book, but enjoyable just the same.

After an mix up in the hospital, a mam appears on the doorstep years later.

The information he has blows two families worlds apart.

Didn’t enjoy this at all

I’ve read several Adele Parks novels but this one was poor. The plot had potential but developed in a way that I didn’t find realistic. The characters were unlikeable and the narrative was over dramatic. I plodded on to the end but didn’t enjoy it. It was all a bit Enid Blyton secret seven for me.

Really enjoyed this story

One of the best books I've listened to in a while. Really enjoyed the plot and the characters and personally didn't feel like it dragged on too long, as other listeners have felt.

a story of a mother love and the power of feelings

It's nice to read a book that explores feels for a child that isn't biological yours. But the warm and feelings of love shines through. love is more powerful than DNA

Amazing plot but far too much detail!

I am so glad I persevered although it was hard work. The story itself was fantastic with twists and turns although the endless monologuing had me almost head butting my steering wheel in frustration. The reader was awesome in I See You which is why I picked this audio book but it was tough going and occasionally voices could be confused. Basically I would think this book is easier in book form do that you can skim through the copious description and endless psycho analysing of every moment!

Too Much Unnecessary Dialogue

May Be Some Spoilers

First book by this author and sadly probably my last. She is a good writer and initially I thought this was a really interesting storyline which certainly could and no doubt has happened to people. But, oh please.. I was getting so frustrated by the unnecessary and frankly boring dialogue for the most part of the book. On and on and on... Okay okay we know how Allison loves her daughter, yes we get the picture!
I tried to force myself to finish this book because I paid for it as I didn't have a credit. So annoying when you dislike a book so much and you've lost your money.
If a man knocked on my door one night and we were stupid enough to invite him in then more fool us. The tale he spins sounds pretty unbelievable but I could go with that. Would any family in this position want to get so close to this man and his family and so quickly? I doubt it.
It's a story really more about the character Allison more than any other character in the book... Allison focuses on herself so much. Daughter could have cancer and yet.. No one seems overly worried do they. You would imagine that Catharine herself would be breaking down and not able to attend school with that worry on her young shoulders ... but no.
Another story running alongside of the younger Allison and it's all very self pitying stuff. Why the author decided to do this I don't know.
Not a good psychological thriller at all, the only bit of psychological illness is disclosed at close to the end of the book. Sorry to the author but it's a no from me.
