About this listen
In a world where men rule, can a woman ever succeed?
Trainee journalist Iris Woodmore is invited to accompany Mrs Sybil Siddons, only the third woman to ever stand for Parliament, to a debate at the House of Commons.
Iris is thrilled but scared. The place holds painful memories. Her mother, Violet, died there when she fell into the River Thames during a daring suffragette protest in 1914.
During the trip with Mrs Siddons, Iris’ world is turned upside down when she discovers her mother didn’t fall - she jumped.
Iris tries to find the suffragette who was with her mother on that fateful day, only to learn she disappeared shortly after the protest and has been missing for six years.
Iris needs to know the reason behind that fatal jump, but her investigation uncovers more secrets than she could ever have imagined....

Fantastic for a freebie
Having been burned a few times with audio books that are included with membership, I wasn't expecting much so as not to be disappointed. Not much info to go on as only one other review. But...it was actually very good. It deals with the beginning of women's emancipation after having found themselves stripped of their freedoms they had during WW1 when the men folk returned often damaged and war torn. The narrator is also good, poor narration is a pet hate of mine as it ruins a book, no matter how well written. Hats off to those who do it well as it's not an easy skill. Anyway, if you need a free book as funds are tight, give it a go!

An engrossing story
A sympathetic main character, a twisting investigation into her mothers death, a high profile trial and great narration all lead to a satisfying audiobook.
