About this listen
Two weeks. Two families. What could possibly go wrong?
Claire Swift can't think of anything worse than another holiday with the Wellbeloved family. The last trip together was a complete disaster - yet somehow, despite Claire's best efforts, they're all off to the Cornish coast again this summer.
So, this time she's coming prepared.
But becoming a domestic goddess to keep up with perfect Honor Wellbeloved isn't easy - especially when Claire is known for being clumsy and burns every meal she makes. And it's not long before her carefully laid plans are going spectacularly wrong.
It's only two weeks, what's the worst that can happen?
A hilarious and relatable listen perfect for fans of Catherine Alliott and Fiona Gibson.

Warm and witty. Listened on my hols!
The Summer Holiday by Jo Clegg had me cringing in guilty recognition. If you don't recognise the twists and turns of this battle with a seemingly perfect "frenemy" you've clearly never had a friend. Clare is a less than yummy mummy locked in a battle between her own sense of self and the feelings of utter worthlessness induced in her by her way too perfect "friend" Honor. Jo's sharp wit and unerring eye for the challenges and frustrations of modern family life set this book apart from more conventional female "frenemy" sagas. This is a subtly satirical take on the sometimes competitive and over aspirational nature of contemporary parenting that feels lively and authentic. The children in this story feel real, their funky warm biscuity smell coming right off the page. If you've ever been that crazy mum doing way too much to try and keep up with the supermums at the school gates you'll love this. If you haven't, you'll get a peek into a beautifully written warm souffle of a world, with enough lemon in it to keep sophisticated tastes happy!

Up close and personal
The Summer Holiday by Jo Clegg is a roller-coaster of human behaviour. It made me laugh out loud, wince and worry, and applaud sagely. This is great family fiction, up close and personal, with all the aggro – you can’t go round it, you have to go through it. The author handles it all with great skill, and her Audible wingwoman, Ellie Heydon, performs the castlist with aplomb – she’s got a lovely voice, and a good range, and dials it up and down in all the right places. Thankyou for a great story and an engaging listen.
