About this listen

In 1536, Annie Dawson was brutally raped and murdered.

In the 487 years since she has made it her immortal mission to save every girl she can from the same fate. Those she couldn’t save completely have joined her. They have mockingly become known in the fanged community as The Survivors.

When Annie receives an irresistible offer from the cursed coven, the four survivors head to Buckingham Palace. If they save Prince Alistair they finally get their questions answered. They finally find out why they are the only vampires that can walk during the day and what happened to Annie’s brother all those years ago.

It's hard to fit 500 years of context and backstory in to a novel but this book does so wonderfully. I would say this novel is for a mature audience due to some of the more heavy themes present but that being said those themes are handled with nuance and sensitivity. The characters are (forgive the pun) beautifully human, in that they are flawed but also really complex and likable. it's impossible not to get emotionally attached to these characters. the world building and relationship development of the characters really leads to an emotionally impactful story and I'm really excited for the next installment. there were a couple of minor editing errors in the audiobook but I did feel mean knocking a point off for it because overall the narration is really good and brings the characters to life well!

The Survivors is a story based around vampires and witches spanning 500 years. The novel brings a fresh take to the origins of vampires and combines it with themes of consent.

I loved the distinct characterisation in The Survivors. It is read expertly,

Vampires, witches and Satan, oh my!
