About this listen

Richard Hanney is an ordinary man, drawn into mysteries he does not understand, and no one is willing to help him. In these 2 suspense novels written by the father of the modern spy thriller, Hanney must outwit villains in unnerving situations that lay bare the thin veneer separating civilized man from the barbarian. These novels - the first 2 from the series The Four Adventures of Richard Hanney, are presented in unabridged form, detailing every moment of these suspense-filled thrillers.(P) Books on Tape, Inc. Stories good recording quality poor

I’m a long time fan of 39 Steps but this version suffers from being an original recording of many years ago when recording equipment was more basic. I persevered with Greenmantle but it is not my cup of tea.

39 Steps

I have to agree withthe previous review, a very poor quality recording, very difficult to listen to in the car, unlike my other audible downloads. Prehaps Audible could post a notice to customers so they are at least aware and can make an informed judgement.
The tone of the narrators voice simply exascerbates the problem.

Thirty Nine Steps

This is a very poor recording. All my previous experience with Audible has been excellent but this recording is shockingly poor. The quality of the sound is poor and it needs re-balancing also the public school narrator appears to be having a Gin and Tonic and a large cigar whilst reading.

Just joined listened too two books so far this was second -OMG its JUST SHOCKING , i have asked for another book (i hope i get one) , its such poor quality , compaired to first book , and the chap doing the story sounds like he has marbles in his mouth - Audible is doing them self no favours with books thats sound like this - Very disapointed - Delete this book from your archives or get the cleaner to re read it - my cat could do a better job !!!
shame because buchan books are briliant - please please please get another version of these books .

However i like the service , the site and the first book was brill so i can only hope there are no more books like this !!

Thanks happy listening all!!

Bad recording DO NOT BUY IT

I totally agree with previous reviewers - the quality of this recording - even after downloading it in Enhanced format is awful. Audible should remove this recording from its catalogue. I wish there was a way to check the recordings before buying - just being able to listen to a minute or so would make such a difference especially as listeners find different readers are better to listen to than others.

Barely Audible

This is a dreadful Audible production. So disappointed. The reader is barely audible. Classic books...terrible delivery. Such a shame.

Poor quality audio

The story sounds interesting but the standard of the audio is very poor and very hard work to listen to.
Sounds like a 1940's BBC newscaster.
