About this listen
In this dramatic novel, introduced here by Humphrey McQueen, a large cast of characters, historical and fictional, black and white, convict and settler, brings alive those bitter years with moments of tenderness and conciliation amid the brutality and hostility.
All the while, behind the veneer of British civilisation, lies the baffling presence of Australia, a timeless land that shares with England "not even its seasons or its stars".

The emotional heart of the history of British settlement of Australia is exquisitely rendered and thoughtfully performed by James Condon in the classic Australian novel by Eleanor Dark, The Timeless Land. Marred by conflict and brutality, this story brilliantly evokes the people and landscape of Australia as a backdrop for crucial struggles between white settlers and aboriginal people. In equal measure compassionate and critical, and filled with living imagery, Dark never shrinks from her subject. With energy and deep feeling, Condon brings this important classic piece of Australian literature to life.

Extraordinary
I am astonished by the previous review of this audiobook. This is not only an extraordinary classic novel, written with great insight by a white woman in the 1930's, but also an equally extraordinary narration. Condon understands EVERY word he speaks and is full of emotion and meaning for the full 24 hours. Mammoth effort!

History & story
Loved this history & story epic. Narrator slightly annoying but didn’t detract from a great read

Another mistake
I took this book at face value as an exciting novel, only to find that it is actually an Australian School Reader. What a disappointment for someone who loves anything Australia.
The reader certainly lectures you and I could not bear to listen to this for over 24 hours nomatter how good the content. I am afraid I very quickly ans reluctantly gave up.
