About this listen

The Traitor concludes the ruthless and gripping epic fantasy series from New York Times bestseller Anthony Ryan, whose books have sold more than a million copies worldwide.

It's been a long journey for Alwyn Scribe. Born a bastard and raised an outlaw, he's now a knight and the most trusted advisor to Lady Evadine Courlain. Together they've won countless battles and helped to bring order to a fractured kingdom.

Yet Evadine is not the woman Alwyn once knew. As puritanical fury increasingly replaces her benevolent faith, Alwyn begins to question what her true motives really are.

As the kingdom braces itself for one final battle, Alwyn's conscience fights its own war with his heart. Now, more than ever, he must decide whose side he's really on.

Extremely entertaining, interesting characters, and a pleasing narrator. All in place for an enjoyable escape into a fantasy/medieval world with magic and intrigue.

Very good tale

Great conclusion to the trilogy, Anthony Ryan has done it again. I can see Alwyn resurfacing in the future.....can't wait

Great conclusion

The life of a scribe continues to show itself convoluted! Well read - though at times the recording jumps which breaks the spell.

The narrator perfect and the way it made you never have rest and contemplate ignorance.

a brilliant story to make your life better than you thought when you woke up ,

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it, but for my taste, it didn't match up to the first two books of the trilogy due to
the change of emphasis towards the spiritual / magical.

Although the denouement worked, it often felt like the author needed a convenient ending to this trilogy whilst setting up the next one rather than it being a natural conclusion.

A change of style from the first two books.

I've enjoyed all of the series and this draws it to a fulfilling and epic conclusions. More please Mr Ryan.

Excellent and a fitting end.

Enjoyed the story but would have liked a slightly longer ending tying up things a bit neater. Good trilogy overall. Narrator struggled with accents and consistency but didn't detract too much.

Good trilogy

First off Steven Brand’s narration is superb. That alone keeps you listening.

As for the story, I personally quite enjoy rambling through a fantasy world for hours on end but, in truth, the series is too long and would benefit from being a bit shorter. A couple of battles/sword fights too many. They are all a bit the same and my interest definitely waned at times.

I would agree to some extent with those reviewers who find aspects of the story implausible but then again it’s fantasy. It’s not meant to be realistic. Nevertheless it wasn’t clear to me how the Covenant Host, having swept all before them, suddenly became a shambolic fighting force.

There were quite a number of annoying little glitches in the recording which shouldn’t have got passed quality control but not so bad as to materially diminish one’s enjoyment of the book.

Overall enjoyable with minor reservations

While i feel the ending of this story somewhat abrupt. it delivers astoundingly well and will recommend this for everyone.

Fantastic

Once again we are given a window into the most tumultuous of times in a sprawling landscape richly populated with cultures and complex characters for whom justice does not always prevail.
Protagonists and antagonists change before our eyes as they struggle, suffer and learn. Coming to a huge climax that for many, is bittersweet.
Sometimes a fully invested reader mourns the end of a journey such as this, and I have that feeling now, and yet it feels like the right place to finish and allow the characters to live out their days unobserved by us voyeurs, while knowing that the story is never truly over.

Brilliant climax
