The Uncynical Cannibal

By: Dewi Llywelyn
Narrated by: Richard Glover, Simon Kane, Daniel Lawrence Taylor, Bobby Mair, Sophie Henderson

Summary

A gloriously mad desert island romp - complete with zombies, walrus pirates and a talking goldfish called Albie.

Like Robinson Crusoe on acid, it follows the adventures of Isaac, a shipwrecked sailor whose boat is sunk by a excess of radio sound effects and is then washed up in a tropical paradise where warring tribes compete to pay homage to a giant Sea beast called Gary.

A fast-paced gag fest which is a splendid mix of music hall and surreal nonsense, which is fresh, intriguing and laugh-out-loud funny.

Dreadful

Was this written in the early hours of the morning while under the influence? A loaded of unfunny tosh.

Couldn't stick with it to the end

What disappointed you about The Uncynical Cannibal?

Disjointed, not funny, everything really

What will your next listen be?

Probably a longer book.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Don't think there was much chance for the narrator to shine in this.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Uncynical Cannibal?

Most of it

Sorry, really did not enjoy this

Maybe I was just the wrong audience for this. It did nothing for me. Sorry.

I switched off after 5 minutes

couldn't tell you anything about this 'comedy' as after 5 minutes my brain had had enough of the tedium and switched to neutral. Back to the drawing board for the writer

Didn't tickle my funnybone

I liked the concept but it didn't make me laugh, or even smile. Sorry, not for me.

Not my cup of tea

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

It was 30 minutes of my life I won't get back. I found it a difficult listen, I wanted to enjoy it but, well, but

Would you recommend The Uncynical Cannibal to your friends? Why or why not?

I would not recommend it anyone other than a complete stranger, and then anonymously

Which scene did you most enjoy?

If there was any on point that made me smirk it was when the talking goldfish turned up

Was The Uncynical Cannibal worth the listening time?

No

Any additional comments?

I cannot see this as a series. It reminded me of a 1970s rag week magazine written by the young ones, and I don't mean the actors but their characters.

Witty, Clever and Unusual

Any additional comments?

I most definitely am not the market these comedies are written for but, having downloaded them, I feel obliged to comment. However, having said that, I can still appreciate the witty and clever writing skills of the authors.
Of the five, I preferred, Working For The Big Man, but I must be honest and say, were they produced as a full length book, I would not buy any of them.

No

Didn't engage me, found it annoying, possibly trying too hard. Perhaps I'm not in a sufficiently receptive mood, but just not for me.

Disappointing and disjointed.

I was hoping for a goonesque half hour but unfortunately it was more like a chuckle brothers disaster.
