About this listen

The delicious new romantic novel: now a No. 2 Sunday Times hardback bestseller

When Josh Strachan, newly returned to his home in north Cornwall from sunny California, first meets Sophie Wells, he's immediately smitten.

Sophie's pretty, she's funny, she has lots of friends, and she clearly loves her job as a photographer, despite the sometimes tricky clients. There's just one problem: Sophie has very firmly turned her back on love.

It's nothing personal, she tells Josh, but she just doesn't do dates. And no one - even Sophie's scatty best friend Tula - will tell him why.

Josh is sure Sophie likes him, though, and he's just got to find out what's put her off romance. And then put things right....

Would you try another book written by Jill Mansell or narrated by Jane Collingwood?

not really..

Has The Unpredictable Consequences of Love put you off other books in this genre?

not at all. i like silly novels but this one was a bit too much of a happy ending.. and very predictable.

Have you listened to any of Jane Collingwood’s other performances? How does this one compare?

not that i remember, but the reading was fine.

Did The Unpredictable Consequences of Love inspire you to do anything?

not really.

Predictable consequences of love...

loved this book so much I couldn't put it down!!! the voices for male characters were a bit too similar so I kinda struggled with who was saying what sometimes but I still really enjoyed the story! I would listen to it to and from work - I'm gutted it's finished!

Amazing!

I absolutely love this book, I love all of Jill Mansell's books and have read them all many times. She's my absolute favourite author. I thought I'd give the audiobook a go and wish I hadn't. The narration is absolutely awful. The accents are shocking, they change throughout the book and every male character has a gruff voice. Josh is supposed to be an attractive character but the way his voice is portrayed makes him sound like a miserable old man. I won't be reading any more books by this narrator, I couldn't even finish this one. Which is a shame.

Lovely story, awful narration

A wonderful book looking at the best and worst of relationships through the lense of an amusing eye. A always a loveable book.

Fabulous, funny and moving.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Yes it was. It took me a little while to get into (not sure if that was me, or the book). When I did though, I found it to be a really pleasant story with very likeable, well drawn characters. Its a perfect holiday read.

Would you be willing to try another book from Jill Mansell? Why or why not?

Yes, I look forward to it.

What does Jane Collingwood bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

I don't know, but she narrated it beautifully.

Pleasant, relaxing read/listen.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

The storyline was predictable, and the characters were stereotyped

Has The Unpredictable Consequences of Love put you off other books in this genre?

Not really - they are good fun for a bit of lightweight escapism

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The male characters all sounded about 14 which was not in character at all!

If this book were a film would you go see it?

No - I would wait for it to come on to TV, but then I might watch it!

Light weight escapism

Yes it is predictable, cliche ridden chick lit, but if you fancy an escapist listen with a seaside setting this is perfect. Of course, I knew where the story was going from the beginning but there were a couple of surprises along the way and this was a very easy and enjoyable listen with likeable characters. This is the first time I have listened to Jane Collingwood narrate for many years. In the past I have found her tone rather grating but I thought she narrated this book perfectly with excellent differentiation between all the characters.

Hugely enjoyable chick lit

What did you like most about The Unpredictable Consequences of Love?

It was well presented with a strong storyline. Loved the side stories, even if parts were predictable, it was enjoyable listening to them unravel!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Tula -she was written as a genuinely sweet girl, optimistic and happy!

Couldn't turn it off!!!
