About this listen
Daniel Clay, a once-respected psychiatrist, has been missing for years following revelations about harm done to the children in his care. Believing him dead, his daughter Rebecca has tried to come to terms with her father's legacy, but her fragile peace is about to be shattered. Someone is asking questions about Daniel Clay, someone who does not believe that he is dead: the revenger Merrick, a father and a killer obsessed with discovering the truth about his own daughter's disappearance. Private detective Charlie Parker is hired to make Merrick go away, but Merrick will not be stopped. Soon Parker finds himself trapped between those who want the truth about Daniel Clay to be revealed, and those who want it to remain hidden at all costs.
But there are other forces at work here. Someone is funding Merrick's hunt, a ghost from Parker's past. And Merrick's actions have drawn others from the shadows, half-glimpsed figures intent upon their own form of revenge, pale wraiths drifting through the ranks of the unquiet dead. The Hollow Men have come….

Would you consider the audio edition of The Unquiet to be better than the print version?
There's nothing in it for when I read a John Connolly book I do so hearing Jeff HardingWhat did you like best about this story?
The multi layered plot that is very gradually woven into a pattern ... the anticipation you are seduced into almost without knowing what direction the writer will take nextWhat about Jeff Harding’s performance did you like?
The depth and gravitas he lends to characters - the sound colours he charges each scene, each character with...male or female. The man has a genius for story telling with a voice that has a certain timbre John Connolly's books need. Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
You have to savour the entire story to get a charge and no one moment can do that. You can't appreciate a building by studying a single brick. An uncomfortable reality leaking into nightmares

Another point I’ll mention is that I was very aware of hearing pages being turned/held and felt like these could’ve been edited out? Personally found them quite distracting (I listen through headphones so perhaps more obvious).
The story: it was ok, there were interesting characters throughout. I had wondered if I’d missed a book when The Collector was introduced but apparently I haven’t. I feel like it was quite slow throughout and as a result the ending felt a bit rushed the way everything suddenly seemed to happen.
I’m honestly a bit bored of the Rachel storyline and feel like maybe the author introduced a love interest/family too soon in what appears to be a long series and they sort of get in the way/don’t add anything for me.
Not my favourite

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I would recommend this book to a friend if they enjoyed supernatural thrillers with a twistHave you listened to any of Jeff Harding’s other performances? How does this one compare?
I love Jeff Harding he brings the characters to life. I first came across him when I listened to "Dancing for the Hangman"Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Yes, it made me really sad, its uncomfortable listening because you really don't want to believe the evil that people do but you know it goes on. Even though the book is fictional you get drawn in and hooked. It could have been based on real events and in parts, probably was.Any additional comments?
The research into child abuse the author did for this book must have been harrowing. I wasn't sure I was going to like the book but I just couldn't put it down. I wanted to see justice done! The twist at the end was one I didn't see coming either.Haunting uncomfortable compelling
