Summary

The war hero returns home with his dog, Wicked. Both have been injured. Their welcome should be pretty straightforward, but not everyone likes a war hero. Maybe Kelly’s son, Cash, should have stayed in Afghanistan. At least there he knew who the enemy was!

All Kelly and Mike want to do is help Cash recuperate from his injuries. They never planned on becoming involved with a kidnapping.

Good to have guard dogs when you need them.

This is the 18th book in the best-selling Cedar May Cozy Mystery series by two-time USA Today best-selling author Dianne Harman.

Family reunion

I enjoyed this book. It is slightly different to the author's normal books in the fact that most of the story is centered around the main characters family life and the investigation doesn't start until near the end of the book. This works well because I like the characters and this is the first real introduction to Kelly's son. This doesn't mean the book is boring or slow in any way. In fact you get a number of perspectives leading up to the kidnapping and you are introduced to a number of characters that could possible have motives for wanting revenge on Kelly's family. I did think I might get emotional with this book because I don't like people getting hurt or putting there lives on the line but the author has done a nice job covering both sides of the subject from the hero to the family that is left behind and I think it is nice that people that serve there country (or humans in general) get the recognition that they deserve.
When Kelly's son is sent home from Afghanistan after being injured, Kelly fears the worse. But he and his service dog Wicked return as hero's and it is only right that they should be recognised for there work. However Cash's return sparks a few jealous feeling and someone in Cedar Bay plots to take the golden boy down a few pegs.
The narrator was okay but a bit gruff for my liking or through she did speak clearly.
