About this listen
War is only the beginning...
From number one New York Times best-selling author Jennifer L. Armentrout comes book four in her Blood and Ash series.
From the desperation of golden crowns...
Casteel Da’Neer knows all too well that very few are as cunning or vicious as the Blood Queen, but no one, not even him, could’ve prepared for the staggering revelations. The magnitude of what the Blood Queen has done is almost unthinkable.
And born of mortal flesh...
Nothing will stop Poppy from freeing her King and destroying everything the Blood Crown stands for. With the strength of the Primal of Life’s guards behind her, and the support of the wolven, Poppy must convince the Atlantian generals to make war her way - because there can be no retreat this time. Not if she has any hope of building a future where both kingdoms can reside in peace.
A great primal power rises...
Together, Poppy and Casteel must embrace traditions old and new to safeguard those they hold dear - to protect those who cannot defend themselves. But war is only the beginning. Ancient primal powers have already stirred, revealing the horror of what began eons ago. To end what the Blood Queen has begun, Poppy might have to become what she has been prophesied to be - what she fears the most.
As the Harbinger of Death and Destruction.

I feel like you wouldn't get half of it if you haven't read the spin off.. And that shouldn't be.
Also I HATE what they did with Kieran he should have had his own love interest!
And Casteel idk.. I liked he got his own narrator now but not sure of their choice of narrator. And he seems like a side piece that only has sex on his brains which I'm pretty sure he does cause he is who he is.. But his depth and his character seems somehow neclected in this book. Which I'd actually also say about Kieran.
Not as good as the others

there were some good bits and the story actually evolved, some lines made me laugh, so I gave it 3 stars, but I wont be reading or listening more of her books.
Very mixed feelings about these books

The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars is that Stina did make a lot of mistakes with names etc. despite that I still love her performance.
Love this book

Loved it!

It didn't actually end properly, and the last half hour felt like a retroactive infodump.
I also agree with the other reviewers' points:
The Joining event had been signposted from really early on then made into a big thing, but in the end it was just a confusing, vague act.
The narration by Stina was a great performance on the whole, except for the pronunciation of 'eeeeeeether' and 'entyumed', and Kieren's wavering accent. The male narrator sounds like an American doing a posh British accent, which makes it quite cringey. He also makes Poppy sound whiney, which is annoying.
Casteel's character has become less interesting, while Kieren has become more interesting.
And the never-ending escalation of manipulations by the Blood Queen just got annoying for me, rather than keeping up the tension.
Having said all that, I know I'll be reading the next book.
giant anticlimax

I always love Stina's narration in everything she does. I personally don't like male narrators, their "female voices" are always ridiculous and throw me out of the story every time. Thankfully not too many chapters with it though. I personally would have preferred Stina to have narrated the whole book, her male voices are fantastic. It would have been utter perfection if it had been just her voice.
The story did not disappoint
