About this listen

World-renowned best-selling author Carlos Castaneda's selection of his writings on the shamans of ancient Mexico.

Originally drawn to Yaqui Indian spiritual leader don Juan Matus for his knowledge of mind-altering plants, best-selling author Carlos Castaneda soon immersed himself in the sorcerer's magical world entirely. Ten years after his first encounter with the shaman, Castaneda examines his field notes and comes to understand what don Juan knew all along - that these plants are merely a means to understanding the alternative realities that one cannot fully embrace on one's own.

Totally inspiring to one on the warriors path.

As someone relentlessly challenged by life and committed to personal development and a more connected living state, this book is an inspiration and a motivation and grounds me into a sense of understanding. Thanks team for pulling it together x

Pushing the comfort Zone

When I started this book I wasn't sure I'd finish it. It sounded like a deeply personal reflection on the authors relationship with his mentor. But the guy had published it, and part of growth is pushing your boundaries or comfortzone. I am glad I choose it in the end. The quotes are deep and meaningful. Honestly the mentor seems like an amazing person.

I really enjoyed the insights into a culture so different from my own. And spiritual practice so closely linked with philosophy.

There was one thing I found mildly annoying though. And that was the unnecessary (in my opinion) gendering of the warrior state of being particularly as they all seemed to me male. Where do females come into this? Do we not exist spiritual? Despite this it was an enjoyable read.
