Summary
If you want to discover the captivating history of the Winter War, then pay attention....
In December 1940, British Prime Minister Winston Churchill made a speech about a conflict that had some leading figures in Britain and France, including Churchill himself, briefly discussing the idea of going to war with the Soviet Union, even though they were already fighting Adolf Hitler.
Of course, war makes strange bedfellows, and one year later, Churchill would find himself allied with the Soviet Union against Germany and Finland. It’s an interesting saga, one with roots in imperial Russian history and the desire of the Finns to be free in their northern forests.
In The Winter War: A Captivating Guide to the Russo-Finnish War between Finland and the Soviet Union, you will discover topics such as
- The Grand Duchy of Finland
- The Finnish Civil War
- Between a rock and a hard place
- The Red Menace
- Negotiations, “refresher training,” and the balance of forces
- The Greatest Finn of all time
- Hell in the snow
- And much, much more!

You need this book.....
It requires very little and provides the user all the information they need to form an effective, factual, understanding of what the winter war was really like. The use of maps is very well done and the writer has a way of making sense of the difficult political and military jobs in a way other authors find tricky.

Very surprising
The only book I’ve found on this war and really informative. It’s a great listen, though is quite biased towards Finland.

The account was excellent
The writer could have given more personal achievements of individual soldiers, more writings of the heroics that many soldiers performed. There were some, but not nearly enough.

helpful
There are lots of details here for military followers and political historians alike - however, this audiobook is clear enough to appeal to a user with only the most basic interest in the conflict.

Definitely recommended
This audiobook should be understood by anyone interested in Finland. You cannot know the country without knowing what happened to it during the Second World War. This audiobook is interesting and very enjoyable. I suggest it enthusiastically.

Although I have learned other books on the subject, this improved my knowledge and it absolutely was a worthwhile audible.

history book
I wish that every history book was written like this. Very well researched, easy to understand. It explores the war from different points of view: the battles, the everyday life of soldiers, the war saw from outside, the air battles.

Entertaining too
This is a very interesting audiobook about a battle that today is little recognized outside Finland. The opening sections present a 'potted' history of Finland up until WWII, which then serves as a platform for the coverage of the important and political decisions taken by both sides that finally, began to war.

I really love this
I really love the mini-wars within WW2, it shows an exciting side of history you are different from unless you are from the range they are talking on.
