What made the experience of listening to The Wise Man's Fear (Part One) the most enjoyable?

This book will amaze you, intrigue you and I promise you will be left wanting more. Not only is it very well written but as an audio book it flows and memorise your ears, leaving your brain to truly visualise the words. It brings together the mythical, man and intellectual desire in such a wonderful story.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Wise Man's Fear (Part One)?

I was listening to this in Afghanistan and just as the hero is finding kindness and life saving help in the cellar the alarm goes off and we have to react. Fate I thought!

What about Rupert Degas’s performance did you like?

Rupert's voice has a depth that brings to life the characters, it's reassuring yet full of subtly. I love listening to him, so much so it has influenced my choice of audio book.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Absolutely, I brought part two and can not believe there is not more.

Any additional comments?

I don't normally write reviews but this is not only a wonderful book, surprising me as I had no idea about it when I brought it but I was and am hooked. I am on my second session in case I missed any nuances on the first round!

I have such a deep love for this book that I think i may hate it!! I hate the fact that it has to end, i HATE the fact that at the end of every book i wish that i had forgone waiting for my monthly credit and just bought the next part to remove the profound emptiness and suspense that keeps my mined ticking over while im meant to be asleep!! god help me when the series draws to a close!! :S







All a little Melodramatic i admit, but this dose not make it any the less true. This story kept my glued to my Ipod. The twist and turns making my smile, laugh out loud and feel a deep seance of sadness, regret and frustration on behalf of many of the characters. Never in the 10 years i have been listening to audio books have i ever been drawn into a story like this.







For anyone who is contemplating purchasing this book but is wavering on the edge of uncertainty like i was before i listened to it pleas, trust me (a complete stranger i know) but you wont regret it ..... well you may but for all the right reasons :)

Patrick Rothfuss has created the best fantasy series in years.

Kvothe is the most fantastic character since Jorg Ancrath or Eddard Stark. He has intense charisma and a heartbreaking history that will drag at your heart.

We learn a little more about Bast and his love for his 'teacher'. It seems that there isn't much he don't do for Kvothe, even to the point of putting Kvothe in danger, hoping to prod him out of the deep lethargy and depression he lives in. It doesn't work - what ails Kvothe is a betrayal too deep and wounds to his soul too grievous to heal.

We also learn more about Denna, and frankly, Kvothe would have been better off to never have met the cow. She may have demons of her own, but she blunders through Kvothe's life, instead of doing the responsible thing and staying away from him.

The book ends on a happy note, but having an inkling of what's coming, it's bittersweet.

That we've had to wait so long for book 3 is torture. Sometime in 2016, we're told.

Dragging feet to make it last

The book itself was great. Degas' narration was generally very good, although there were several inexcusable mistakes, and many many small grammatical changes. The grammatical changes I don't mind, as they were minor and likely just made things sound more natural. However, what I do mind is Degas used the word "strange" in place of the word "straight," thus completely changing the meaning of an entire sentence, or when the recording cut a few words out completely, or repeated part of a sentence twice. These mistakes should have been picked up and fixed.

However towards the end I felt that so many loose ends were left undone. Luckily for me I listened to this in 2021 and not 2011. I cant imagine waiting 10 years to find out what happens next. I mean we still dont know when the final book will land but at least I have only waited just under a month :-).

This and The Name of the Wind are two of my favourite books. I, like everyone else, can't wait for the next installment, but I can relisten to these books endlessly while I wait.

I have loved Rothfuss’ books for many years now. Get with the Doors of Stone already Pat. Anyway. The revelation for me here is just how good Degas is at narrating. He is obviously supported by some technical wizardry to distort his voice on occasion, so it isn’t quite as old school as the Lord of the Rings set by Rob Inglis, but it definitely has that story time quality from when your parents read to you as a kid. It’s brilliant. Totally enveloping. I find myself drifting off into the story no matter what I’m doing when I put it on.
