Summary

‘You want me to write a list? Like a shopping list?'

Gwendolyn nodded. 'Exactly. But for what you want from a man.’

Florence Fairfax might have been single for quite a while – well, forever, actually – but she isn’t lonely. She loves her job at the little bookshop in Chelsea and her beloved cat Marmalade who keeps her company at night. She’s perfectly happy, thank you.

So when Florence meets an eccentric love coach who asks her to write a wish list describing her perfect man, she refuses to take it seriously. Until later that week, Rory, a handsome blond man with the sexual athleticism of James Bond she asked for just happens to walk into the bookshop....

Rory seems to tick all of the boxes on Florence’s list. But is she about to discover there’s more to love than being perfect on paper?

A gloriously funny and feel-good read for anyone searching for their perfect match who ticks all of the boxes. Fans of Sophie Kinsella and Beth O’Leary will snort with laughter at this hilarious and heart-warming listen.

Loved it!

I love that the author narrates her books because she's funny and you get more of a sense as to how the story is to be heard. It's an easygoing romcom that I thought was brilliant. A tad posh in places but ultimately hilarious and great. You can definitely see where it's heading but I like that because you know the ending is going to be heartwarming and satisfying. Definitely worth your time.

The Wish List 5 stars.

This book was so funny, made me cry with laughter and a little sadness at one point. This is my book of 2020- it was so good. When listening no thoughts of COVID-19, it literally helped me escape this challenging year. I started to listen to this whilst away in North Norfolk looking out at the amazing views. Thank you Sophia I have already downloaded another book by you.

Perfect

Heartwarming and funny. I remembered enjoying a previous book by the author so didn’t hesitate. She’s brilliant to listen to!

Candyfloss for the ears

The Wish was enjoyable enough but the main character was 2 dimentional and annoyingly precious. Her neurotic counting seemed bolted on to try and make her less insipid but huge artistic licence had to be granted time and again to get through to the end.

"I need to tell you something urgently be we have no time" while the other person is too wrapped in their blabbing irellevance to listen, is tedius. These irritating, clichéd scenarios increased in frequency throughout the book to reach a crescendo of ultimate cringe, so clichéd that it would be slated at any creative writing course.

This is literary candyfloss and the lowest scoring of all her books, but still worth a listen.

A bit silly for me but love her other books

Shame but I was frustrated with silly characters and story. I’ve listened to her other books and loved them but almost gave up up on this.

Not great

This is the third book that I've purchased to listen to but not sure why. The first book has an okay sort but the narrator is so monotone in her reading, as she was with the second, as she is with the third hence, why I've not even gotten through 2 chapters without turning it off. I'll not be continuing to listen to anymore of purchased any more of this ladies work. Not great

Ahhh had to return because of the narrator..

Such a shame as the story seemed fairy good but the monotone & aggressive manor of the narrator killed it for me... I really did try but couldn’t last it out to the end, such a shame!

Irritating narrative

I would suggest a professional actress reads SMC s books in future. I found her voice far too strident and clipped. This reduced the comic elements and there was weak character differentiation between the females. The love coach was especially unconvincing. Sorry!
