Autumn 1940, World War Two: Bombs are raining down, destroying the cities of Britain. The evacuations begin, and soon children are being taken to the country for safety. Teacher Eve Parkins is in charge of one such group. The children are scared and Eve does her best to calm them, but the truth is that she too is haunted by a personal tragedy she cannot put behind her.

Their destination is Eel Marsh House. Desolate and forlorn, it is situated on a causeway and is sinking into the treacherous tidal marshes that surround it. Far from home and with no alternative, Eve and the children move in. But soon it becomes apparent that there is someone else in the house with them, someone Eve can't see but who is far more deadly than any number of German bombs...The Woman in Black.

I enjoyed The Woman in Black and hoped that, while this sequel might not be as good, it would still be decent.

The narration is great but the story really lets everything down. It seems like the only purpose of the women in it were to be rescued by men.

The children were interesting characters but I just didn’t empathise with the adults.

I really enjoyed this better than the movie, so much so it was easy to let the story take you away.

Nice enough story to listen to, although not as gripping as the first. Narration not the best... the comical character voices are annoying and distracting.

This supposed sequel to Susan Hill’s masterful novel is tedious and poor. When I didn’t think it could get any worse one of the main characters, a corporal in the British Army during WWII calls his sergeant “Sir!” and salutes him. It is painful and stupid.

Audible should provide a refund service.

This is an OK sequel to the original brilliant classic. It would have been an entertaining listen but for the narration, which lacked gravitas or an ability to build suspense. The characters' voices were even comical at times - especially the men! and the children too - which further undermined the story's attempts to engender fear in the listener. Real shame.

I felt the narrator was woefully inadequate for this story, being very lightweight and somewhat screechy. This led to a complete lack of dramatic tension and was very disappointing.
