Summary

England, 1854

Returning from the Crimean War, Lawrence Pownall Beaumont is given a string bound bundle of cryptic letters by his dying father. They bear the family seal and have crossed land and sea to find him - they are written by his brother Nathaniel’s hand.

The mysterious letters lead Lawrence into a labyrinth of supernatural and occult worlds, scandals, and betrayals to arouse violent passions, and a journey far from home to explore lands of cultures past and present.

A journey to a world as wild as the one he feels within.

To a world beyond our knowing.

Wonderful from the first page turned.

I absolutely loved this audiobook. The World Beyond Our Knowing has the tragic secrets and mysterious depth of gothic horror, and the pace of a horror that twists and turns through a wonderfully written and narrated landscape. Set in the Victorian-era this audiobook was so descriptive that it transported me back to that time and those places. It would make a wonderful period drama for Netflix or the BBC.
