About this listen
When 15-year-old Romeo's mother leaves one day and doesn't return, he finds himself homeless and trying to survive on the streets. Mute and terrified, his silence makes him vulnerable, and one night, he is beaten by a gang of other kids, only to be rescued by a boy who pledges to take care of him.
Julian is barely two years older than Romeo. After running away from an increasingly violent home life, he makes some difficult choices and ends up selling himself on the street to survive. Taking care of Romeo changes him, gives him a purpose in life, gives him hope, and though he tries to be strong and keep his troubles with drugs behind him, living as they do is slowly destroying him, and he begins to doubt he can be strong enough.
This is the story of their struggle to find a way off the streets and stay together at all costs. But when events threaten to tear them apart, Romeo knows he must find the strength within himself to help Julian (and not let their love story turn into a tragedy).

Heartbreaking, difficuIlt , but so beautiful.
I was completely drawn in by this beautiful book. It’s sombre, has a sense of hopelessness and despair throughout most of it. Julian and Romeo are in a dire situation: homeless, penniless, struggling to make it from one day to the next; Romeo is mute and Julian has fought and is struggling with addiction; but through it all, they are together, they keep fighting to be alive, and be together. When one loses hope, the other one somehow, somewhere gathers the strength to carry on and pick them both up.
This is IN FACT a love story, not an easy one, there’s no sunshine and roses and cute dates. It’s a battle, or more appropriately an ongoing war to conquer fate and come out alive, winners of the most wonderful prize: their future together.
Be prepared to be overwhelmed by a barrage of emotions, as this is not a low-angst, fluffy book by any means, but like the Grinch’s, my heart grew three sizes following these boy’s journey!
I love Hamish Long’s performance, he is always my favourite whenever listening to any story set in England.

Heartfelt story
Wow, I didn't know what to expect from this story as I'm still fairly new to this author's work but this is one of the most heartfelt and emotional stories I have listened to in a long time. My heart broke several times but it felt like such a realistic story that had a good flow. The narration was so well suited to the story as well. I thought the ending was perfect 💜
