About this listen
This enthralling story of the making of an American is also a timely meditation on being Muslim in America today.
Threading My Prayer Rug is a richly textured reflection on what it is to be a Muslim in America today. It is also the luminous story of many journeys: from Pakistan to the United States in an arranged marriage that becomes a love match lasting 40 years; from secular Muslim in an Islamic society to devout Muslim in a society ignorant of Islam, and from liberal to conservative to American Muslim; from student to bride and mother; and from an immigrant intending to stay two years to an American citizen, business executive, grandmother, and tireless advocate for interfaith understanding.
Beginning with a sweetly funny, moving account of her arranged marriage, the author undercuts stereotypes and offers the refreshing view of an American life through Muslim eyes. In chapters leavened with humor, hope, and insight, she recounts an immigrant's daily struggles balancing assimilation with preserving heritage, overcoming religious barriers from within and distortions of Islam from without, and confronting issues of raising her children as Muslims - while they lobby for a Christmas tree!
Sabeeha Rehman was doing interfaith work for Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf, the driving force behind the Muslim community center at Ground Zero, when the backlash began. She discusses what that experience revealed about American society.

Very interesting
I didn’t think this was going to be as it was, but I found it fascinating, and learnt so much about the Muslim faith and many other things.
As an atheist I found the final couple of hours a bit lengthy , but it’s a wonderful book written by a lovely and inspirational woman, who should be very proud of all she has achieved. Definitely recommend a listen.

A must read for all in my opinion
A wonderful autobiographical account of one woman's life when she moves to live with her new Husband in America and her struggles as a woman of the Muslim faith trying to adjust to living in a predominantly Christian country and trying to bring these two communities together.
I enjoyed this book so much that I listened twice! It has opened my eyes further and answered questions I have had.

unveiling the depth beneath the surface
beautiful book, I'm a big fan of religious groups learning from one another and sharing humanity. Definitely recommend to anyone of any religious background. As a side note, I also adore the love story of the author and her husband too

A captivating muslim woman’s memoir
Captivating
As a young Muslim woman, I often feel the older generation of Muslims, especially south Asian muslims don’t get the struggles of millennial and gen Z south Asian muslims living in the west. But it was refreshing to hear Sabeeha’s story and realise the struggles we go through, she did too. Makes me appreciate the older generations that emigrated. Crossed borders but kept hold of their faith and culture, whilst grasping the new culture. Intertwining two cultures to form one’s identity. A refreshing listen.

Both entaining and enlightening - a lovely book especially for people like me with little experience or knowledge of Muslim faith and culture.

Inspirational & Informative
I don't tend to read autobiographies, but based on the reviews given I gave it ago. Very quietly spoken, at times I did struggle to hear, but the tone of the speech went well with the story. It gave me an insight into the Muslim faith. How connected people are as a family, something we seem to be loosing as people up sticks and move, but how technology is keeping us together! A nice read.
