About this listen

Penguin presents the audiobook edition of Tomorrow by Damian Dibben, read by George Blagden.

Tomorrow
tells the story of a 217-year-old dog and his search for his lost master. His adventures take him through the London Frost Fair, the strange court of King Charles I, the wars of the Spanish succession, Versailles, the Golden Age of Amsterdam, 19th Century Venice and the Battle of Waterloo. As he journeys through Europe, he befriends both animals and humans, falls in love (only once), marvels at the human ability to make music, despairs at their capacity for war and gains insight into both the strength and frailties of the human spirit.

With the rich historical vision of Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell and the captivating canine perspective of The Art of Racing in the Rain, Tomorrow draws us into a unique, century-spanning tale of the unbreakable connection between dog and human.

Critic reviews

My heart swelled with FEELINGS! (Sarra Manning)
Ornate, vivid, deeply coloured, and so precise I could smell and taste the world . . . the story of a dog crossing continents and centuries in search of the man he loves is moving and tender. I was captivated by its charm from the beginning (Rachel Joyce)

This is a fantastically engaging story. I was spellbound from the beginning. History is painted so vividly as are the characters. George Blagden does a wonderful job of narrating. I can’t recommend Tomorrow highly enough. More from this author please!

A beautiful story

The narrator spoke in a slow, somewhat depressing manner. I could hardly bear it, so increased the playback speed just a tiny bit, which was quite effective.
Rather a gloomy story too.

Depressing narration.

A book for all generations. I loved it (I'm in my 40's), my Mum loved it (in her 80's) and my daughter loved it (20's).
Sporco is an absolute darling :)

A book for all generations. Beautifully written.

I listened to this book on Audible. At first I didn't know what to make of this story. It was confusing. But as it continued I began to understand it better and enjoy it more. I loved the narration, it was gentle and suited the story. Narrated from the perspective of the dog, named Tomorrow, this in itself was something new and I liked it. Beautifully written, ultimately, this is a story of Time and all the sorrows, loss, horrors, heartbreaks and joys that is contained within.

Tomorrow Tomorrow, I love you Tomorrow...

I was intrigued about this book when I read the description. Having George Blagden as narrator helped my decision as I really enjoyed his performance in Versailles.
The story is entrancing, the characters of the dogs are completely relatable (I’m a dog owner) and it made me laugh and cry. Loved it.

Beautiful and so different

I wasn't sure what to expect from a story told by a dog, but I really enjoyed it.

Unexpectedly sweet
