Summary

When his brother catches measles, Tom is sent away for the summer to stay with his uncle and aunt and is thoroughly fed up about it. What a boring summer it's going to be. But then, lying in bed one night, he hears the old grandfather clock in the hall strike the very strange hour of 13 o'clock. What can it mean? As Tom creeps downstairs and opens the door, he finds out...a magical garden, a new playmate, and the adventure of a lifetime. Una Stubbs stars as Aunt Gwen in this BBC Radio 4 full-cast dramatisation.

Tom's Midnight Garden

Having been a huge fan of Phlippa Pearce as a child I was keen to listen to this with my 8 year old son. We both loved it. The dramatisation is very well done and the story is easy to follow. It was a real joy to see my son fascinated by the events unfolding in the garden, and trying to work out what was happening, how and why...

A Wonderful Dramatisation

This dramatisation captures all the beautiful bittersweet charm of the classic book and all the members of the cast perform perfectly. This is a superb production.

Wonderful classic story

I thoroughly enjoyed sharing this story with my six year old son who enjoyed listening as much as I did. A great dramatisation that meant we couldn't stop listening and finished it in three sittings (snuggled up in bed). I can't recommend enough!!

Very Enjoyable

A very good adaptation but it felt too short and it made me want to listen to an unabridged reading.

Beautiful story, well read

Where does Tom's Midnight Garden (Dramatised) rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

An enjoyable children's tale I remember well from my childhood.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Tom's Midnight Garden (Dramatised)?

I was filled with excitement as they skated down the river.

What does Dramatisation bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

The dramatization really brought the book to life and immersed me into Tom's world.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

No spoilers here - the ending is very lovely.

Any additional comments?

This is a relatively short book that I loved listening to over the course of an evening. Worth a listen if you read this as a child and a wonderful story to introduce to your own children.

Great for a car journey with the kids

A lovely story with a satisfying end, this was a perfect length for a holiday homeward car journey. The kids were not keen on listening at the start - they wanted the iPad - but we played this at x1.2 speed (which was a comfortable listening speed) and the story moved well and they enjoyed it. I’m sure we’ll be listening to it again on a future drive.
