‘Even in the darkest of Dickens novels, no family comes across quite as mendacious, grasping and avaricious as the Trumps’ Financial Times

A REVELATORY PORTRAIT OF DONALD J. TRUMP AND THE TOXIC FAMILY THAT MADE HIM – WRITTEN BY HIS NIECE, MARY L. TRUMP

Mary Trump spent much of her childhood in her grandparents’ large, imposing house in New York with Donald and his four siblings. She describes a nightmare of traumas, destructive relationships and a tragic combination of neglect and abuse. As a first-hand witness and a trained clinical psychologist, Mary explains how specific events and general family patterns created the damaged man who occupied the Oval Office.

Written by the only Trump willing to speak out, Too Much and Never Enough is a fascinating and unnerving analysis on one of the world’s most powerful and dysfunctional families. Mary Trump’s insight and intimate familiarity means she alone can tell the truth on what makes Donald, and the rest of her clan, tick.

Critic reviews

‘Mary draws a portrait of a surreal, scarred clan... But the fact that Donald morphed from huckster to celebrity to president makes her account seminal and indispensable. Mary’s clarity, training, discipline and sharp eye help make her a reliable narrator, and she’s a fluid, witty writer to boot. Everything in her book that I’m familiar with is spot on. There is plenty in the book, however, that I wasn’t aware of, and I suspect that’s the reason the president and his siblings have gone to court to try to halt its publication.’ (Timothy L. O'Brien)
'Trump claims to be unique, exceptional, a shining self-creation. This book by his estranged niece demolishes that myth. Mary Trump’s ruthless memoir blames their family for creating him: she sees it as her patriotic mission to “take Donald down”, and she does so by showing how derivative and dependent the ultimate self-made man has always been... In a startling final condemnation, she charges that his “craven need for ‘revenge’” on opponents makes him, in his nonchalance about coronavirus in New York, responsible for what she calls “mass murder”.' (Peter Conrad)

an interesting insight

it's a book about Trump so I was not expecting much, but it surprised me by being both thoughtful and considerate, the author clearly felt pity for his upbringing, her disdain seems to be more leveled at the people that allow his presidency to continue.

Exactly what you’d expect

I suspect this won’t win any converts but it’s
interesting all the same. There are no real surprises either but it’s intelligent, thoughtful, and likely truthful. If you were going to make things up to damage the president, it would’ve very easy to come up with a far more salacious and damning book that would still be believable. Another confirmation that he’s exactly who he appears to be. Enjoy.

Brilliant

This is not a book of opinions. It is the story of lived experience backed up with a P.h.D level analysis. Highly recommended.

interesting family saga

This was like listening to a family saga unfold. Fascinating look at how the other half live and how wealth is amassed and controlled. The last chapter seemed a bit rushed and out of sync with the family drama set up, though I do understand the point of it and how the family drama led to it.

It provides clarity

Mary provides many new, yet unsurprising facts about Donald. It does give clarity on how Donald grown to become a thing he is today.

Very interesting read

I pre-ordered this book and was excited to read it. Found it very interesting and an insight into Trumps behaviour. The way he and his siblings tried to rob the author of her inheritance didn’t surprise me, you can see his narcissistic mannerisms in everything he does these days

Would highly recommend this book ,

A must read or listen

Fabulous story so good I've listened to it 3 times now and will do it again. It's a clever lady that lays her life's story out like she has because her life story will go down in history .
