About this listen
It wasn't just that I didn't like her. I didn't trust her.
Charlotte is a people pleaser - she can't help but go the extra mile. So when she stumbles upon an unconscious man one night, it's only natural that she wants to help.
Brought into the arms of the victim's loving family, she sees at once how much they need her. But while his parents happily welcome her into the fold, his sister is another story. It's not just that Rebecca doesn't like Charlotte, she clearly doesn't trust her either.
But the more time Charlotte spends in Rebecca's company, the more she suspects she's the one with something to hide. And if Charlotte is to protect this family - and herself - she'll need to do whatever she can to find out what that is....
A twisty story of lies, obsession and revenge that will have you wondering who to believe until the last page. Perfect for fans of Clare Mackintosh and Laura Marshall.

The narrators assigned to the two main characters were well cast. Charlotte, young, naive, limited social skills, wanting to be liked, and Rebecca, a darker character who knows what she wants and is set to make sure she gets it.
I loved Rebecca. I loved her indignant tone each time she felt that she was being wronged. Quite amusing if you allow yourself not to take the story too seriously.
For much of the story, Rebecca and Charlotte were suspicious of each others past and we follow their furtive investigations into each others history. (No more spoilers from me!)
This isn't the very best literature that will endure for years to come, but it is a very enjoyable read that doesn't take too much concentration. No complex jumping between time periods, it is a straightforward story that flows from beginning to end. I'll be looking out for more books by Jessica Vallance.

I loved the way the characters unfolded and were likable despite their flaws and their motivation was explored which made them have a lot more depth.
There were twists and turns, nothing and nobody was quite as they seemed at first, The different point of views gave insight and were humorous at times and it certainly never boring as unfolding and changing all the time.
I am proud to say I did guess the final twist but not until close to the reveal and it was a very strong ending instead of fizzling out like so many thrillers or becoming too implausible.
I loved the narration of Rebecca especially but Charlotte was also well voiced and there was plenty of contrast between the two voices which made it easy to follow.
I would recommend this book as a really well written and well put together and a very enjoyable and a lovely fresh idea with plenty of twists and turns.
