Summary
‘A great, laugh-out loud, British contemporary romance novel…I guarantee it will put a smile on your face.’ – What’s Better Than Books
Falling for the man of her dreams…
Ruby Wood is perfectly happy playing the dating game – until she has a red-hot dream about her very attractive flatmate, Nick. He might spend every day saving lives as a junior doctor, but he’s absolutely the last man on earth that fun-loving Ruby would ever date!
The solution? Focus on all of Nick’s bad points. And if that fails, up her dating antics and find herself a man. So what if she manages to make disapproving, goody two-shoes Nick jealous in the process…
Only, after a series of nightmare first dates, there’s still just one man on Ruby’s mind. Maybe it’s time to admit the truth and dare to ask Nick to be her next date?
Don't miss this utterly uplifting and laugh-out-loud romcom from bestseller Portia MacIntosh, perfect for fans of Beth O’Leary and Mhairi McFarlane!

Liked it but didn’t love it
I love Portia but not her best story but I enjoyed it & Karen Cass was fab as always.
The ending wrapped up very quickly , would have been nice to see where it went after rather than ending suddenly 🤷♀️

I am sad to say I am a bit disappointed
I usually love portia macintosh, but this didn't hit the mark, it was quite slow to get going and when it finally got to the point it was over....
such a shame and a waste of credit!

The one liners
Probably the worst I’ve listened to in a long while, which is such a same as I love Portia’s books normally.

Not very nice person
It was difficult to root for the main character. She wasn’t a very nice person.
Usually l love Portia Mackintosh stories but this one wasn’t for me.

Dated and disappointing
The 90s called and wants its protagonist back! Blimey. A ladette who refers to other women as "birds" & "chicks" and sees veganism as a slight on someone's personality. This is so outdated it's painful. What a waste of a decent narrator.

Awful
From a huge fan of Portia, this review was hard to write… absolutely worst book she’s ever penned - do not waste your time.
I am always front of the queue when Portia releases a new book; I usually pre order most - but I’m starting to question whether I continue doing so…
Is Millsy meant to be the same Millsy from her other books? If not, use a different name.
Shocked by some of the language used in this book too - the swearing and sex talk was on another level… really disappointed.
Karen Cass was the only good thing about this book. I hope this isn’t the start of a downward spiral for Portia.

Insufferable pick-me character
Firstly I’d like to state, the writing itself is not bad, the author is clearly talented. I did finish the story and like enjoyed it enough as an easy read.
However, the main character is such an insufferable pick-me, kind of character, with zero moral compass. It felt like a story about how much she hated other women and thought herself so superior, that because the other women in the story had different ideologies or personalities they were worth not more than a piece of dog poo on her shoe.
The men are all so extremely surface level with absolutely no depth, and nothing seems to be spoken about other than how they are such Bro’s and sex is life.
There were some moments that made me chuckle, but I don’t think these characters will stick with me.
The plot although it had potential fell flat due to the characters not being strong enough to carry it.
