About this listen
British UFO researcher Philip Mantle began his active involvement in ufology in 1980 when he joined the newly formed Yorkshire UFO Society. One of the first UFO cases that he investigated was a landing case in the West Yorkshire town of Normanton in England. This incident took place only a few miles from where he lived. The case in question was to do two things: The first was to confirm that he was not wasting his time investigating this phenomenon, and the second was to give him a lifelong interest in both UFOs and in particular UFO landing cases.
This audiobook looks at UFO landing cases in the UK only (with the addition of the Republic of Ireland) beginning long before the modern era of UFOs began in 1947 right the way through to today. Case histories are separated into decades and come complete with photographs, documents, artwork, and much more. The case histories featured in this audiobook are looked at for their "high strangeness" value.
The late Dr. J. Allen Hynek, the man who invented the phrase "close encounters", suggested long ago that an area of research to concentrate on were the cases which were up close and personal--in others words, UFO landing accounts. Dr. Hynek argued that the greater the degree of high strangeness, the less likely it was that the UFO case in question could be explained away in conventional terms.
As UFO researchers we know that most UFO sightings reported have a conventional explanation and at the end of the day there remains only a few that seem to remain "unidentified". The author argues that the closer the witnesses are to these UFO landings then the less likely they are to have a rational explanation. The high strangeness factor increases in a number of ways, the length of time the UFO is in view, how close the witness was to it, more than one witness being involved, and so on.
The case histories featured in this audiobook come from some of the author's own investigations along with other UFO researchers, UFO groups, publications, and of course, UFO books. At no point in this audiobook does the author argue that any one specific theory is better placed to explain these cases than any other. The listeners are left to make up their own minds in this respect.
Instead, and in keeping with the theme of the audiobook, the author has obtained comments from a significant number of his colleagues around the UK and the Republic of Ireland. A wide variety of opinions on the nature and origin of UFO landing accounts are featured in full and unedited, providing a fascinating outlook from the British UFO research community. There are many fascinating and bizarre UFO landing cases featured in this audiobook, all of which have confirmed, like they did in 1980, that the author is not wasting his time investigating this phenomenon, which he has done now for over 40 years.
About the author:
Philip Mantle is a long-standing UFO researcher and author from the UK. He was formerly the director of investigations for the British UFO Research Association (BUFORA) and the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) representative for England. He is the founder of Flying Disk Press.
©2022 Philip Mantle (P)2022 Philip MantleHer style is very flat and dull. Perfect for a matter a fact / step by step how too guide book or other kind of formal factual guidelines reference book, but not for this I'm afraid.
I personally found her unengaging narration style continuesly distracting to the point of annoying. The narrators strange misplaced emthesis throughout actually lead me to first beleave it had been read by a budget A. I reader. I was very Suprised to later find that this was not the case. Overall the narrator sounds totally uninterested and disengaged from the subject, which spoils what could have been a very enjoyable audiobook experience.
Excellent book let down by poor narration.

I started this book 2 weeks ago I
I was aware of the famous cases but I was pleasantly surprised that some of the UK landing cases I had not heard off . I'm not a ufo investigator but for many years I have done my own digging down the rabbit holes
what I find amazing is that we have alot of ufo alien abduction or high strangess books written by American researchers and ufo disclosure material but I have not found many British ufo books . I started this book and now I've just finished it . Helen Langfprd narration was clear precise and also gentle in giving the UK ufo landing cases .I hope she does a book 2 on the ufos in uk 🇬🇧
fantastic , great!!!!

I also think that only someone with Philips vast experience both in the ground, in Uk networks and of the quite fragmentary literature across numerous small UFO magazines could have put this together. So it’s a must read if you want a detailed account that you won’t get anywhere else.
Philip starts off in the mists of time with sightings recorded in ancient Manuscripts and then methodically takes us through each decade from the 1930s onwards.
As the reader you see not only the volume of the accounts but the common factors and also the subtle evolution of the events over time.
The book mainly focuses on actual landings and observed behaviour of occupants and frequently encounters. We see a lot of humanoid figures, a lot of sample taking on consistent warnings of doom and ecological disaster alongside as I say a more sinister evolution. But you also see a lot diversity and some truly wierd stuff that cautions against easy conclusions
I also appreciated the unfiltered way Philip records the events without imposing his own take on events beyond explanations of context and place etc. This is really important if you want a proper reference book which will stand the test of time. As ufo theories change therefore this book will still be a great reference as it very much is just the facts.
So for me if you are serious about the subject and also want an informative page Turner this is a genuine must read! But be warned after you have read it you may have more questions than when you stated much like Phillip has after 50 years.
So for me this is UK UFOs done proper as you would expect from a Yorkshireman.
Fantastic history of Uk Landings only Philip could write
