About this listen
Editor's Choice in The Bookseller.
Based on the 'world's spookiest podcast' of the same name comes Unexplained: a book of 10 real-life mysteries which might be best left unexplained....
Demonic possession in 1970s Germany.
UFOs in Rendlesham forest.
Reincarnation in Middlesbrough.
Richard Maclean Smith delves into these mysteries and many more, with a supporting cast bringing to life the unexplained occurrences in this special immersive audio edition.
Based on one of the most successful paranormal podcasts ever, with over 10 million streams and downloads to date, Unexplained consists of 10 chapters focusing on a different paranormal event, from Australia to Germany, the UK to Zimbabwe, using the stories as gateways to a journey beyond the veil of the uncanny, exploring what they reveal of the human experience.
This special immersive audio edition is narrated by Richard MacLean Smith and features full cast re-creations of the unexplained events.
Taking ideas once thought of as supernatural or paranormal and questioning whether radical ideas in science might provide a new but equally extraordinary explanation, Unexplained is The Examined Life meets The X-Files.

An incredible experience
I've been hooked on Richard Maclean Smith's Unexplained podcast for a while, and I was eager to get this audio book. Once again, he brings his incredible talent as a writer, researcher, composer, and performer to a selection of bizarre and eerie true life tales. There's truly nothing quite like listening Maclean Smith's flawless reading of his expertly-written words as he narrates an unsettling story before examining the philosophical implications of it, all set to his evocative music.
In my view, Richard Maclean Smith stands head and shoulders above other "true life horror" content creators, and this book did not disappoint on any level.
If you're on the fence about buying this book, I should point out that two of the stories aren't, strictly speaking, "unexplained" - they have explanations and the author gives them. I won't say which two for fear of spoilers, but I will say that this didn't bother me personally, as both tales are still creepy, and the philosophical interpretations that follow were just as compelling as the rest of his work.
If you like the podcast, this is a must-have, especially the audio book. If you're new to the author, this is a masterfully written examination of the unexplained that takes the subject seriously and never jumps to conclusions.

Amazing story telling coupled with eerie music provides an atmosphere like no other audio book I've listened too. Looking forward to more books in the future.

More a philosophical study than a book about the unexplained.
The book is, undoubtedly, well written. However, its title is (probably unintentionally) misleading. If one purchases a book for a little light reading, one doesn’t expect a study in philosophy written in the style of a Marcel Proust novel. Sorry I cannot be more positive.

Excellent
If you like the podcast, you’ll like this. The stories are much more in-depth and so interesting to listen to.
I love the thought provoking conclusions to each story and have listened to this audiobook more than once. I’m just hoping for a second book!

A very interesting and mind expanding listen!
Quite different from most "unexplained" type books. Taking a real deep dive into the detail, history and philosophy of unexplained events. Well worth a listen.

Creepy tales based in truth and science
Some of the tales of true life unexplained events in this book really disturbed me, especially the chapter on the notorious American hotel and the tale of the haunted box. The narration is atmospheric and suited the content well. A creepy, and thought provoking listen.
