About this listen

This was the second Lord Peter Wimsey story to be adapted for radio in the mid-1970s. Broadcast May 5 to June 16 1975, it was adapted by Chris Miller and produced by Simon Brett.

The case on Agatha Dawson is closed, but Lord Peter Wimsey is not satisfied. With no clues to work on, he begins his own investigation. Then Agatha's maid is suddenly murdered.

Brilliantly played

Ian Carmichael is the quintessential Lord Peter on screen and through audio his performance is superb. All the cast members play their parts to perfection and do justice to Dorothy Sayers' writing. Her plots have always been absorbing and intricate and a joy to read or to listen to.

Another wonderful piece of writing

A great piece of writing to listen to - if that isn't too much of a juxtaposition! Her usual high standard of story telling told by Peter Carmichael & Co., wonderfully!
I will now continue with the next one....

episodes separated

Any additional comments?

This particular adaptation is separated into episodes as originally produced on live radio. I much prefer not to have these separations but to have the narration in a continual flow as it is in the other Dorothy Sayers' I've listened to. That's why I've not given 5 stars but the content is typically good Dorothy Sayers.

First rate radio play

Would you listen to Unnatural Death (Dramatised) again? Why?

Truly fantastic cast and dramatisation. Yes you know whodunnit from the start but the twists of the plot and the seeming absence of motive and opportunity keep you engaged.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Unnatural Death (Dramatised)?

That might give the game away!

Which character – as performed by the narrator – was your favourite?

Lord Peter Wimsey, of course!

Classic 1920s crime

A vintage 1920s crime story, pretty faithfully adapted as a BBC Radio series with Ian Carmichael and Peter Jones as Wimsey and Bunter. A satisfying mystery with outstanding actors and sound effects,
I can't tell you how many times I've listened to this! I save my new Audiobooks for when I'm wide awake, but this has become a favourite for listening to at night when I can't sleep ...I'm like a child with this as my go to bedtime story.
