About this listen

Four classic tales of the undead, read by Bill Wallis, Anthony Head, John Telfer and Cornelius Garrett.

'The Vampyre' sees a young English gentleman accompanying an aristocrat on a tour of Europe. But Aubrey soon discovers that the charming Lord Ruthven is not what he appears to be. In 'The Wailing Well', three boy scouts find more than they bargained for when they search for a haunted well, while 'For the Blood is the Life' tells the story of a mysterious mound and a murdered girl’s dreadful vengeance. And in 'An Episode of Cathedral History', the uncovering of a stone tomb unleashes a terrible force of darkness.

Evocatively read by three of our finest actors, and with atmospheric music, these bloodcurdling tales are perfect listening for long winter nights.

Short But Sweet

Anthony Stewart Head, aka Giles from 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer', reads the second story. His work alone is worth the price of admission. Fortunately, the other actors deliver equally worthy performances. Highly recommended.

Short & Sweet

It's not a bad listen but having listened to a few of these audio's they are sounding a bit the same, but worth a listen narration was good but the music in between the stories was a bit loud, don't know why they play it if you turn it down you can't hear the story so you turn it back up, find it easier to remove the ear-phones.

Short stories delivered well

A taste of gothica...
Really entertaining. Wish they were longer. Delivery of narrators was really good. Leaves you wanting more.

Good Stories

Some of these supernatural stories I liked some I did not. I enjoyed hearing Anthony Head narrate, he's very good.

Hmmmm

Bram Stoker would never be worried by these 4. Not enough substance to them.

Narrators bring classic vampire tale to... unlife!

I've heard all these vampire tales before, but this time the excellent narrators really held my attention and I decovered fresh nuances and appreciation for these stories. The Vampire and The Blood Is The Life in particular were brought to new heights. Believe me, I've heard some dire renditions that completely fail to spark my interest. Well done Bill Wallis, Anthony Head, Cornelius Garrett and John Telfer for doing a wonderful job.

good collection

a collection of old fantastical, horror stories focused on the myth of the vampire, written by various artists, one more than 200 years old, the others slightly newer, but still of the past century. i found some of the stories better than others, but all are very interesting, especially in comparison, in regards to what each author chose to do with their plot and details.
great performance, very atmospheric. the horror is subtle, unlike with more modern tales, nice to listen to.
