About this listen
This audiobook includes Graham Coxon in conversation with Matt Everitt, recorded at a live event in Brighton in October 2022.
Among the noise and clamour of the Britpop era, Blur co-founder Graham Coxon managed to carve out a niche to become one of the most innovative and respected guitarists of his generation - but it wasn't always easy.
Graham grew up as an Army kid, moving frequently in his early years from West Germany to Derbyshire and Winchester before settling in Colchester, Essex. A shy child, he had a thing for eating soil and drawing intense visions; his anxiety was tempered by painting and a growing love of music. These twin passions grew into obsessions, and as he honed his artistic skill at school, Goldsmiths and beyond, his band with school friend Damon Albarn, fellow student Alex James, and a drummer called Dave Rowntree began to get noticed.
But there are things they don't tell you before you get famous. There are monsters out there. And some may even be lurking inside yourself.
Verse, Chorus, Monster! is an intimate, honest reflection on music, fame, addiction and art by one of Britain's most iconic musicians.

A book that makes you see it from the inside.
Listening to this book felt like Graham was behind me holding my shoulders and gently whispering his story in my ear.

Enjoyable and at times sad journey through Graham’s (& my) life
As an young adult in 1990, I grew up with Blur and this has stayed with me until now in my early 50s. Graham has always fascinated me as the quieter member and the only person to ‘leave’ the group. The book is a candid account of his life (to now) but also his demons. As someone who until recently had similar demons, such as, terrible anxiety, the trials and tribulations really resonated.
I bought the special edition of this book signed and with accompanying picture ; and so not wanting to read the book, as you should, I thought the audible version would be the alternative. Leaving the book intact. Listening to the man himself, is great and Highly recommend.

Superb insight, down to earth and relatable!
I found this book really interesting, the way it came across was uncannyly like some areas of my life and he feels like a person that could fit into my friend group. This is probably because Graham is a great story teller, lyricist, musician, whitty, relatable and because I grew up not far from Colchester too :)

A Moving Account of an Interesting Life
Graham Coxon has led a pretty fascinating life, and made a lot of amazing music. I found it moving to hear it read by the man himself, as if he is next to you, confessing much about the truth of his life-experience. Graham was kind about many of the main players in his life. His ups and downs are shared in a vulnerable way and I was riveted throughout, managing to binge listen to the whole thing in one day.
If you're into what this amazing musician and artist does, you'll really enjoy hearing more about his background, personal observations and his heart-on-sleeve feelings. Thank you, Graham for this beautiful book/audiobook.
